The beer is an 11.5% Imperial Brown Ale which we have aged in amazing Spanish sweet red barrels from Malaga. Stewart Bowman, our Head Brewer, devised an Imperial Brown Ale designed to perfectly complement the wine flavours and extract maximum depth and character from the giant barrels. We also felt the Imperial Brown Ale was ideally suited to be barrel aged and as well as the infusion of the Malaga wine character will also benefit added complexity and maturity from the time in oak.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty spicy caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel flavor with weak hints of chocolate. Has a roasted malty chocolate and caramel finish.

375ml bottle. Pours black with a large head. Aroma is sweet, raisin, a little smoke and hints of wine. Taste is sweet and raisin. Dark fruits and red wine notes. Boozy aftertaste. Good stuff.

Bottle, 375 ml corked, at grünerløkka festival. A brown beer, lightly hazy, and topped by a beige head. Sweetish, vinous nose with caramel and maltiness. Although sweet on the palate, there’s some sourness blending in. Caramel, wine, alcohol, brown sugar and a faint bitterness in the flavour. Lasting finish. A bit warming, but really nice. 120825

Bottle at Grünerløkka mat- og mikrobryggfestiva. Pours clear brown with a tan head. Quite fruity aroma with malt, wood, berries? and spices. Sweet and malty with a quite dry, woody finish with hints of spices. Sweet, but pleasant.

Bottle courtesy of James, thanks! Almost black, large brown head, good retention. Aroma of dark fruits and dates. Taste is plums, port wine.

I finished off a great drinking session at the BrewDog Bar in Manchester with one-third pint of this one poured from tap. Deep, dark-reddish shade body covered by a filmy, beige layer. Lovely aroma of stewed prunes, smoke and chocolate malt. Dark and dried fruity taste alongside notes of dark berries and vanilla offset by a malt-bitter end, long-lived and added by alcohol warmth. Velvety mouthfeel. Delicious full bodied sipper (07.07.2012).

(Bottle, 0.375 l - bottle no 6745 - bottled on 20/06/12, at Kitty’s, 20120804) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had alcohol, malts and molasses. Palate was medium bodied and warming with lowish carbonation. Flavours were malts, hops, molasses, sweetness and hops. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A boozy sweet mess.

Bottle at home. Caramel colour with no head. Good legs. A deep boozy, rum raisin aroma. The aroma opens up when it gets a bit warmer. The beer has light carbonation which suits it well, and has a really smooth velvety palete. The base beer compliments the wine character beautifully and it hides the ABV diceptivly. This is very well put together beer.

375ml bottle. Pours opaque black with a slim cream head. The nose has a major hazelnuts with a hint of toffee and chocolate in the background. The taste is pretty much the same. The palate is big and velvety and it hides the alcohol really well. Overall, the best Abstrakt in some time.

On tap at Camden Brewdog. So after the somewhat stunted Hunters and Libertine - is there salvation in AB 10 at an eye watering £5.95 a third pint? The £18 pint? WTF? Hazy dark red beer, good pale tan head. Smooth soft palate, airy and semi dry. Light toffee malt and malt cream. Very nice berry things going on - mild blackcurrant, cherry and a whisper of strawberry. Finishes soft and smooth. A corker of a beer, well integrated and smooth, hides the abv really well. Plus I don’t think we have had anything like this from a British brewer and precious few from anywhere else. Reminds me of the Norrebro Port barrel beers a little. I would still have another, even at these prices ...

Abstrakt 01 - 25 Vertical @ Brewdog Sheps Bush. Well last time I tasted this fine beer, just a few months ago, it was sadly bolloxed. What's this one like .... Almost clear amber beer, short lived bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light but only has modest fine carbonation. Tangy malts, caramel, some winey ripe fruits. Smooth finish. Not quite as knackered as my recent bottle but sadly a pale shadow of what it once was. 3.2
