In Oct 2009 I wrote this on BA: Brown 33cl bottle (Gouden Tripel), best before 7th Dec 2009, drank and reviewed just before this site started to shed reviews (twice in the case of this beer). I thought this beer was Mr Average in all aspects, because the original review and my second attempt have both been lost this is just an overview. I know the scores were all 3’s, but the reasons have been lost ’in the sands of time’. If I ever see another one I’ll re-review the beer!

75oml bottle from Auchan. Piana spora lecz nie trwala, zlocista barwa, pachnie bananami i biszkoptami, w smaku ciasteczkowo, slodowo, po czym jest chmielnosc i rozgrzewajacy alkohol w gardle, zle nie jest ale za slodkie mocny ma posmak to zaleta ale chyba starsza wersja Gouden Tripel byla lepsza, no i fajnijsze byly etykiety.

Bottle, 12C. Clear pale gold with a white head. Restrained but complex aroma of oranges, peaches, dough, cheese, vanilla. Very carbonated mouthfeel. Taste has sweet fruits, spicy bitterness, some astringency from the bubbles. A let down after the aroma.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, yellow-brown appearance with a big head that features huge bubbles that dissipates quickly. Potent orange-pineapple-mango citrusy tartness, a touch bready, potent juicy nose. Very fruity, mango, tangerine, orange citrusy, fairly tangy, a touch sour, belgian yeasty flavor. One of the most fruity tripels I’ve had.

Whole Foods, P St, DC 750 ($7): This was a super cheap tripel, so I didn’t pass it up. Pours a light gold color with a light head. Aroma is grainy, with some pepper and coriander; there is some fruitiness in there as well. So the beer has moderate astringency. Actually a good amount of hops. Rather spicy. Not that sweet, but has some candy sweetness towards the back. Not a great beer, but plenty drinkable. Perhaps a tad watery.

En karaktäristisk belgisk trippel med sympatiskt låga 7,5% alkohol som gör att den smakar som ett mellanting mellan en blond och en trippel. Det gör den mindre het och söt jämfört med andra tripplar. Istället framträder en syrlig jästighet med koriandertoner.

Malt, hay, and corn nose, no fruity esters. Clear golden, thick head, good lacing. No esters in the flavor, no candi. Corn again. Alcohol is appropriate. I’m sorry, but this drinks like a well made and palatable american malt liquor. the serving temperature is warmer than I would prefer, but I doubt this would ever resemble a good tripel at any temperature. This must be Belgium’s budget brand.

Bottle. Creamy white excellent mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy and heavy yeasty aroma. Dry week smoked notes. Moderate bitter nice flavor. Average moderate bitter fruity finish. Creamy palate. OK tripel.
