Bottle from Sainburys, Kidlington, part of the beer challenge range, consumed at home Sun 18th Sept’ 11 Pours gold, good clarity. Not exactly what I was expecting, the hoppiness is rather lacking, touch bland, dare I say boring, thin, light metallic, watery, perfectly drinkable and ok, but not great. A6 A3 T5 P3 Ov11 2.8

50cl bottle from Sainsburys. Straw with an instantly vanishing white head; the aroma has resinous hops; the flavour is sweet, perhaps honey?, with some light grainy malts and some reasonable hops at first, but these seem to peter out leaving a sweet biscuity taste. An interesting attempt to blend the styles, this makes a very hoppy lager, but it’s way off being an IPA. Very drinkable though.

Bottle at home in London. Part of the Sainsburys Beer Blow-Out. Pours a clear, light gold with a delicate, pure white foam head. Aroma has some fresh, grassy hops and very lightly toasted white bread. Flavor is pleasant if not terribly memorable. Lightly sweet with some faint, doughy malts and just a nip of bitter hay. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Short, clean finish, some mild biscuity malts and vague hops. Very easy to drink.

500ml bottle. Pours gold with a thin, bubbly head. Aroma is floral with a touch of sick. Taste has a sweet, Belgian candy sugar start. Floral with some sick in the finish.

Bottle at Sainsbury’s Purley Way. It pours straw yellow, with a decent white head. The nose is straw, hay, white bread, dough, crackers and plasticine. The taste is straw, hay, cracker, white bread, grass, lemon, white sugar, metal, plastic and plasticine. Light body, harsh carbonation and severely lacking balance. It seemed to taste worse and worse after each mouth-full...

Bottle from Sainsburys. Vivid gold colour with a slight white head. Yeasty, stone fruits, orange and hay aroma. Full mouth feel, with some chewy cereal malts, more fruits and dryish finish. Drinkable, but neither fish nor fowl.

Cask @ State Bar. Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Nose is hoppy with citrus, lemon, lager malts. Flavour is fruity, citric, a bit malty. Slightly sour, medium carbonation. Fruity and dry finish. Not very good.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Well what can I say about this beer? It’s clear gold with a very thin white head. Touch of lager puke on aroma, touch of ale yeast, Some hops. It’s that odd combination where a UK brewery tries to do a lager/ale mix and it doesn’t work. Look the Czechs and Germans have been doing lager for decades. Use pale malts, a lager yeast and noble hops. Simples. So the aroma is all over the place. Is it an ale, is it a lager. You can’t fuse the 2 together like this. Drinks like a lager in the mouth but you get this slightly sour finish from the ale elements. This doesn’t work. As I say, just all over the place. Not off, no bad flavours, but you can’t fuse 2 styles together like this. Unbalanced, unsublte, unrealistic and mostly undrinkable. 15/10/11 It has been pointed out to me that it is a lager yeast on this beer not an ale one. That just goes to show that no matter how many beers you try you can still make basic cock ups. I will therefore re-rate when i see this beer again.
