Our first beer, Shoals Pale Ale debuted on July 16, 1994 on Portsmouth’s historic waterfront. Our interpretation of a classic English ale is copper-colored, medium-bodied and pleasantly hopped. Its flavor is delightfully complex yet balanced: tangy fruit at the start, with an assertive hop crispness and a long malty finish that one well-known beer writer has compared to the flavor of freshly-baked bread.
The Samuel Haley House, which is featured on the label still stands on Smuttynose Island, one of nine Isles of Shoals, just off the New Hampshire coast. The rich lore of the islands holds that Samuel Haley paid for this house with four bars of pirate silver he found exploring the island. And yes, there are hordes of seagulls on Smuttynose Island.

Bottle. Amber with an off white head that fades but laces a bit. Aroma is earthy and fruity with marmalade and peach. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Rich but not very sweet bread crusts, some stone fruit, insistent citrus flavours leading into a long, firm bitter finish. Some pepper at the end. This is a couple of months out of date but is more than fine. Right up my street.

Dobre piwo, bardzo wytrawne z mleczną mocną pianą. Trochę mnie dziwi klasyfikacja bo to piwo bardziej przypomina mi styl Amber Ale niż Pale Ale. Ogólnie ciekawe i treściwe w smaku piwo

355 ml bottle bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours hazy deep reddish orange with a frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of sticky lacing to the glass. Smell is slightly sweet and fruity with bread, mango, papaya, pineapple, dark grapes, grass, pine, resin and citrus zest. Taste is sweet, bitter, fruity and slightly herbal with grapefruit juice, orange peal, mango, unripe pineapple, dried apricots, slightly dry grass, pine, soil and black tea. Mouthfeel is slightly round, slightly crisp, tiny astringent and light bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with grapefruit rinds, unripe tropical fruits, grape skins, grass, pine needles and citrus peal.
