Medium beige head. Slightly hazy dark red body with faint carbonation. Roasty smoky toffee aroma with earthy pine nut notes. Dry-sweet roasty toasted sugar taste with smoky earthy rye crisp bread notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry toasted sugar and cinnamon aftertaste with smoky toffee and caramel notes. Lovely! Highly drinkable and very vivid, with a nicely delicate smoky background. (0.5l bottle, from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Rated twice. First at RBNAG 2007. Loved it both times.)

Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier! Etwas rauchig und leicht herb startet das Bier, recht mild für einen Bock. Sortentypischer geht’s in den Nachgeschmack, der neben einem hopfigen Aroma auch recht würzig ist. Test vom 4.2.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,9,9,9,9,9 - 8,90

Bottle at Pigs Ear BF. Chestnut colour with thin beige head. Some very nice malt fruit here. bit over carbonated, but I like the clean malt, some syrupy alcohol, but good.

Bottle, 6%. Very lively beer with a very big head. Almost clear dark red/amber colour. Stable, rocky, light brown head. The aroma is a bit metallic, but also sweet. The flavour has good aroma hops. Pleasant, medium bitterness with a little caramel sweetness. Hint of smoke in the aftertaste. Well-balanced. Very high carbonation, but good mouthfeel.

(Bottle 50 cl) Only 6% in my version. Holy smoke! This truly is....smoked. Well, sorry for the bad joke, but I was truly surprised suddenly to encounter a Dutch smoked - that’s a first. Very red and slightly hazy with a decent, light brown head. Sweetish - a bit odd for a smoked - with a good hop bite in the finish. A beer with personality. 060404

Beautiful red-amber, clear; amberish head, falling, good carbonation. Truly superb nose of chocolate cake, fine brandy, fruits preserved in alcohol and a delicate smokiness. And somehow they found room for some noble German-smelling hops. Smokiness is the first to arrive in the taste, as in the Herrnsdorfer Rauchzart. Then a cakey-sweetness comes up, only to be reversed by a smoked:cured ham saltiness. The balance is just impressive! Medium-bodied only. But the "smoked ham" sustains mouthfeel well enough. This is great - ranks for me amongst the Schlenkerla/Spezial/Herrnsdorf classics. A real discovery!

Red amber color. Nice, delicate smokey touch, not enough maltiness. Thanks Jens (Ungstrup) for sharing this bottle.

A clear red beer with a beige or light brown head. The aroma is great; corriander mixing with raspberries. And the flavor is even greater; malty sweet with smoked notes mingling with fruits and ending on a dry corriander note. A truely great beer.
