Our first beer from the revived Sullivan’s Brewing Company is Maltings Irish Red Ale. It’s a refreshingly balanced, ruby tinted classic Irish ale with a depth of malt flavour giving rich biscuit and gentle caramel notes.

Weak-sauce Irish red, with a little bit of toasted bread but mostly acidic notes of apple and a off-kilter floral bitterness.

A sample at Croatian Homebrew Competition Judging School. Clear amber to copper, small off-white head. Aroma is caramely and surprisingly fruity, hints of strawberry, cherry and some candy. A touch of nuts, such as almonds. A hint of toast. Flavour is malty, caramely, a touch of butter. Soft toasty notes. Smooth, light to medium body, finishes sweet.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear red brown with a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of toasted bready malt, toffee, plum and floral hops. Sweet flavour of toasted biscuity malt, caramel, prune, date and spicy hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty and enjoyable.

Draught at Grafton Street Pub, 2/7/26.
Bit of toast and caramel with some red berry and a touch of char.
Reasonably malty but drying out with toast and grain. Moderately fruity, clean and reasonably satisfying. Not over toasted or thin. I'll take it.
