Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year's last canned seasonal, Aloha B'ak'tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B'ak'tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

Can from Utobeer drunk at home. Black beer thick tan head. Intense tarry choccy aroma. It’s a drinkable stout. Good choc tar and intensity. Bit over fizzy maybe. Yep simple, choccy but very drinkable

Location: Can from State Line, 8/9/13

Aroma: The nose is heavy spice and roasted malts, some coffee, chocolate, and a little fruit
Appearance: It pours a murky dark brown color with a small tan head that leaves mild lace
Flavor: The taste is roasty and smokey with lots of spice and some mild sweetness
Palate: The body is medium, it has plus carbonation, and a long tingly/spicy finish
Overall Impression: There were something about this one that worked really well for me and other's that didn't work quite as well. The spice is almost overpowering, which detracts from the flavor a bit, but overall, it is still a solid brew.

Can at home, BOE, 04/08/13. Dark black with a frothy tan head. Nose is dark berry fruits, light roast, light spice. Taste comprises dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, sugars, earthy, light chilli notes, dark tangy fruits, ribena berries. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, tangy dark fruit finale. Solid enough stout - one I’d return to.

EXPLODED CAN!!! Deep dark brown coloured body with a violet glow and i’m guessing, a massive head - but given that the entire can bubbled out and exploded, I’m left with the remnants. Aroma of smoke, tons of roasted malt, a vanilla bomb and a bit of black pepper. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive vanilla and grassy characteristic with a little sour note from yeast, a good dose of chocolate and some light burn at the end and hints of smoke. Aftertaste nice and complex, but showing less malt than I expected. Overall, probably would have been a nice beer - but given the explosion, a little less than stellar. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Whole Foods in Portland (Peal), Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$2.99, held in a complete constant temperature (70degF) in dark (didn’t matter, it was in a can) location for the less than 3 months that this lasted, until it exploded the entire top off the can and the bottom puffed out big - crazy, I’ve only seen this happen to bottles. Sampled at home in Washington on 07-July-2013.

355ml can thanks to unstablefable. Pours opaque black with a nice big crema head. The nose has something savoury and smoky but both of these are mellow, Maybe even aged game, hung meat, pastrami or something. The taste is big coffee and dark chocolate and there’s a long creamy mid palate to the end - nuts too. Overall, interesting beer.
