Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year's last canned seasonal, Aloha B'ak'tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B'ak'tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice.

This beer pours a dark brownish-black color with a hint of ruby around the edges. Thick and foamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, malt and spices. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, sweet fruit, cinnamon and a touch of hops. The finish is sweet chocolate up front with a peppery spice aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can. Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown head and good lacing. Aroma is coffee, cigarettes, dark roasty malts, spices, cinnamon. Flavor is the same, with a touch of chili, but no real head. Light sweet, light bitter, light spicy finish. Medium body, bubbly carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Not bad, not amazing.

12oz can. Poured a dark black color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolates, dark malts, touch of dried fruits, pepper notes, cinnamon and a little cocoa. Flavor is roasted notes, malts, touch of light pepper heat in there, with cinnamon and a long lasting chocolate notes. Not nearly as enjoyable as I had hoped, but okay.

12 ounce can. Pours a deep jet black color with a small beige head. A sweet nose of chocolate and some pepper. A nice flavor: some stout base here with roast and chocolate, light peppers, not really hot, vanilla, cinnamon, almost combines to taste a bit like pumpkin. Quite nice.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma is primarily chocolate with underlying cinnamon and something that might be chili. Full bodied. Flavor is dark malt, chocolate, definitely something chili, and lets the cinnamon flourish in the finish.

Can. Black hued body with a large tan head that lasts. Aromas of dark fruit esters, plums, dates, vinous Belgian yeast, bready malt, leathery and floral with a moderatly strong chocolate presence and some earthy chipotle. Baked apples and chocolate muffins. Flavors are earthy, bready, dusty and roasty with mild pepper and stronger chocolate. Medium bodied with a roasty finish. A bit drier than expected. Medium carbonation.
