Cherry Sournova

Can sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Hazy pink-red. Some pickled vegetables, cherry, slightly sourish, some bitterness.

Can. A- Cherry, tart, slightly sweet. A- Red color, hazy liquid, no head. T- Cherry, tart, mild funk, oak, subtle vanilla. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Really tasty stuff. Almost like a not too sweet and natural tasting cherry pie filling. The cherry is the star here and I did detect some lingering vanilla. Really not wild by any shot although there is just enough funk to remind you it's Almanac but it's almost an afterthought. Enjoyable.

16 oz can from Pilgrim's in CDA, ID. Aroma is cherry, cherry pits, wood, Pours ruby red with a dissipating pinkish-white head that falls into a ring quickly. Taste is light to moderately sour (5/10) with lots of cherry fruit character. The fruit character is real and fresh. This is the first Almanac sour I've had that didn't try to melt my face off with it's acidity and just general sense of Warhead-level sourness. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I like a good restrained sour as much as anyone, but when I buy an Almanac sour, I expect a mouth puckering experience like no other. This is good, though, just unexpected.

Sampled from the tap at Happy Gnome. Pours a clear rose pink with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma of cherry, mainly tart, slightly sweet with a hint of vanilla underlying. Can from Corti Bros. Pours translucent cherry color with a slight pink tinged head. Aroma is lightly tart, much like cooking cherries from a can otherwise. Med minus body. Flavor is just tart cooking cherries. Dry. Maybe a little oak bitterness. Easy drinking. Original review text: Tap at Cap Hop. Pours translucent cherry candy red with a pink tinged head. Aroma is very cherry, verging on sweet. Med body. Flavor is cooking cherry, but it’s rather towards sweet than sour. Sour is well subdued. Til the finish, after the cherry sweet departs. Wood appears in the finish as well. Not musty. Just a little astringent oak. Very drinkable ale. Note: Post-rating it’s pairing very nicely with bulgari and kimchi - which has a touch of jalapeño.

Ridiculously hazy pink and light ruby and rose coloured body with a very thin half centimetre tall off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of pure cherries, funky complex wild yeast with a light bready flavour along with some herbal, dry and grainy notes that definitely make this more of a wild ale than a sour or fruit-based beer. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong dry and very grassy malt notes at first with a little depth from the grain, a lot of cherry and relatively subdued fruit flavours and especially tartness throughout that end with a sturdy, well-balanced beer between all the malt and yeast and the fruity/tart notes. Aftertaste shows the dry, but herbal components of the beer with the complex yeast strain and a dose of the cherries and fruit notes that do dominate the aroma, at least. Overall, a nice enough beer that shows a moderate complexity centered around the fruits with a nice yeast finish and a touch of dryness throughout that make this enjoyable and deep, but not worth a ton of money nor worth searching out or aging! I sampled this ten ounce pour on draught from Blatt Beer & Table in Omaha, Nebraska on 06-November-2018 for US$12,00 (a lot of money).
