Smoked Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. How the significant amount of “Ashtray Heart” found its way to the brisk bourbon barrels is to this day an unsolved mystery. Nevertheless, let’s not twist our minds with bizarre details when this beer is ridiculously choice and overwhelmingly corpulent.

@SBWF2012. Pitch black colour with a small beigeish brown creamy head which lasts for a while and leaves nice lace. Aroma is smoked and roasted malts along with some chocolate, mild alcohol as well as some toffeeish notes. Flavour is very similar, but in a quite sweet way. Yet the finish is rather smoked and quite mouthdrying. Nice sipper, which also is rather easy to drink quicker.

Opaque dark brown beer with a good dark tan head. Soft palate with very mild carbonation. Tangy dark malts, rich and a little roasty. Mild dry wood. Touch of dark chocolate and tangy bourbon that is edging toward sour. Dry and slightly sour finish with a pinch of ash. Slightly spicy aftertaste. Some nice flavours here but just lacks a little cohesion with respect to the best.

Sample at SBWF 2012. Black with a small, tan head. Nice aroma and taste of smoke. Also wood, roasted malt, leather and dark bitter chokolate. The aftertaste was long with ash and a nice bitterness. Tasty stuff.

Bottle shared at Mikkeller Bar. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma of massive bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and slight vegetables. Same aspects in flavour with a heavy sweetness. Thick and oily full bodied beer with low carbonation. Excellent!

Draught at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen
Black color, the head reduces quickly. Nice aroma, not too strong, with nice chocolate, some roasted malt, light distillate. Strong body, round mouthfeel; very good chocolate flavor, with light residual sweetness, some leather, vanilla, more evident liquorice, and some alcohol in the end; light booziness in the final.
Bold, pleasant, quite balanced.

Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head that begins at the edges thar remains throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of smoked meat with dark toasty grains and a hint of must. Flavor has salty meat note that transforms to campfire with some dark roasted malts and a bit of heat from the booze.
