Bomber from South Bay Drug - as SA Double Red Ale. Reddish amber color with a foamy beige head. Deep roasted malt aroma with hints of hop to come. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is red/roasted caramel malt with a heck of a lot of hop. Heat at 9.2%? What heat. Awesome brew. Finish is slightly sweet, but with the abundance of hop, it’s hardly noticeable.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of toncatcher. Almost clear amber golden with a tiny, off-white head. Fat and oily hop aroma. Medium body with notes of toasted caramel, overripe fruit and somewhat perfumy hops. Distinct and a little raw hop finish. 190608

Bottle. Papsoes MadsBerg homecoming blindtasting, bottle #17, as Double. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Solid wooden hops aroma. Flavour is solid dry hoppy with a dense caramel malt base and a slowly growing bitterness. Smooth yet also hoppy. Dry and woody hops flavour following. Ends dry hoppy and solid bitter.

Sample at Alan’s HSC initation. Bottle from the Solana Beach location. The beer pours a luminous reddish-amber color with a thin beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Toasted malt, orange rinds and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops, toasted malt and citrus flavors. The finish is hoppy with some grainy malt underneath, and the bitterness lingers for quite some time. Overall this is an enjoyable beer, and would be even better with just a little more balance.

750mL bottle that read Port Brewing Shark Attack Double Red Ale (9.0%). Pours with hardly any head. Cloudy Amber body. Aroma of sweet fruits, apple, honey, some citrus and spicey hops. Taste is very nice malts with spice and a sweet malt backbone. Nice hop balance in the finish. Syrupy body with hadly any carbonation. Very nice brew overall.

Bomber pours a transparent, slightly hazy, ruby amber with a thin, sudsy slightly off white head. Smells great, a real hopfest; grapefruits, lemons, pine resin and tropical fruits. Flavor is very well rounded with plenty of citrus fruits, some nice boozy alcohol, sweet candy malts and toasted, hearty grains. Very well balanced. Finish is a touch syrupy and has plenty of citrus bitterness. Drinkable and hoppy, but certainly not ground breaking stuff.

Pours clear amber with tan head. The mild aroma has notes of roasty to crystal malts and pine hops. The taste is much the same with rich roasted malts mixing with late addition to the boil pine hop flavor and full boil pine hop bitterness. Midway the malts well up for a moment and steal away the flavor from the hops. Into the finish and after taste the hops grow and leave a lingering pine hop bitterness. Delicious mix of flavors.

Bottle: Dark caramel amber color with a smaller, but thick and creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Nose is bountiful with hops; grapefruit and florals. Nice amount of caramel sweetness. Flavor is a powerful belnd of floral hops and caramel sweetness. The citrus lays back and plays an accenting role. Dry and flowery, but still sweet and smooth. Thanks to The_Epeeist for sending this in trade.

Draught Small yellowish head, receding over pale chestnut beer. Hops and caramel, hopcake, (I know, I’m repeating myself... so are some Cal brewers), dry hop bales. Dry, medicinal taste, there’s a certain pharmaceutical that is similar, here ented on the dry hop flavour. Some caramel. Bit burning MF, slick, sticky. Avery Tomme A. interpretation of a hoppy beer.
