Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout on coffee beans. Café del Bastardo is the culmination of our friendship with Tamp Coffee Co. and our love of Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. An infusion of whole coffee beans into our Kentucky Bastard barrels brings a new member to the Bastard family. This intensely aromatic beer displays bright coffee, bourbon, vanilla and malty chocolate-coffee notes followed by warming alcohol. Enjoy fresh for the fullest expression of the coffee’s subtlety, or cellar and mellow for years to come.

500 ml bottle. 2019 vintage. Pours Black with short tan head. Aromas of acidic black coffee, oak, alcohol, dark sugar and sharp roasted malts. Flavors follow same with dark chocolate and a very strong licorice element. Very good but off balance. Nowhere close to the Kentucky Bastard IMHO. And way over priced... Minus a point.

Bottle. A- Mocha, subtle booze. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Brownie batter, fudge, coffee, slightly sweet, mild bitterness, subtle oak. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- When I bought this I couldn't believe I was spending $20+ on a 16 oz bottle. Because of this price, I didn't pick up the other 2 variations. Little did I know it would be this good. I've never had a beer this big that was this smooth. At 12% and drinks like it's 4% yet doesn't taste thin at all. A balance of sweetness and richness. This is damn close to a perfect RIS. Could drink this all day long. Barrel aging adds flavor complexity rather than booziness.

Bottle from LCBO in Toronto brought back to HK. Rich black pour with medium tan head. Looks nice. Aroma is deep woody coffee, followed by vanilla, big alcohol. Delicious. Taste is big bitter coffee and roasted malt, some bourbon vanilla marshmallow sweetness, sharp booze, rich velvety palate. Warm coffee bitterness that lasts. Excellent.

This brew pours black with some brown around the edges and a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patches of lace. The aroma consists of bourbon, coffee and roast malt. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, roasted coffee, malt and a bit of hops. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

From a 750 ml bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma bourbon and oak. Flavors are very boozy, with plenty of sweet molasses. A bit over the top but still a nice barrel aged beer.

From 75cl bottle at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours very dark with very low cappuccino foam. Aroma is fruits under spirits, coffee, roasted malt. Body is dense and sticky, some astringency. Taste is sweet balanced by a nice bitterness. Finish is long and pleasant.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and slight lacing. Aroma of floral dry coffee notes with some black chocolate notes, bourbon and vanilla with some residual sugar notes is quite enticing. Taste is a well-balanced mix of dry floral coffee notes with some black chocolate notes, residual sugar with light arming alcohol a nice smooth bourbon finish with some notes of vanilla.
