Black Metal, a.k.a. Iron Sword, a.k.a. Blackened Death, a.k.a. Suds of Northern Darkness, a.k.a. El Martillo del Muerte, is a cruel and punishing beer fermented by the sheer force of its awesome will.
Brewed with Hill Country well water, Texas-grown pale malt, British caramel, brown, and chocolate malts, and Belgian candi sugar and fermented in with British yeast. 9.3% alcohol by volume.
Note: This entry is the original Black Metal. Beginning around the time of their first anniversary, Jester King switched to a farmhouse yeast for all of their beers. All ratings after this switch should be entered under the Farmhouse Black Metal Imperial Stout entry. The original Black Metal bottles feature a small sticker on the neck; the Farmhouse Black Metal bottles have the word "Farmhouse" in small print on the label.
**Update** In 2023 Jester King has brought back the original "Farmhouse is Dead, Black Is Back"

Capped 750 from ericandersnavy. Pours very black with a 3 finger creamy dark tan head. Getting a lot of chocolate in the aroma. Think that stiff head may be an obstacle to fine detail. Near full body. Lots of smooth dark malt and chocolate. Heat ramps up a bit. Moves on into something more mocha than anything else. Starbucks should get a recipe that will match this. It’s simply delicious. Finishing on the dry bitter side.

Appearance: Black with a big tan head and lots of sticky lacing
Aroma: Roasted malts, dark fruits and chocolate
Taste: Roasted malts, chocolate, grainy and ashy
Very nice.

Aroma: The aroma is heavy on roast and coffee with some smoke and wood as well
Appearance: It pours a thick black (motor oil) color with a small brown head
Flavor: Somewhat sweet up-front progressing quickly to dry roasty/burnt malts, coffee, and wood
Palate: Full bodied, with a soft carbonation, a smooth mouthfeel, and a surprisingly high drinkability
Overall Impression: It is always pretty exciting to get to try a beer from a brewery this new. This beer was actually really good for a start-up brewery, and one from Texas no less! Well-done Jester King! If these guys bottle more beers I'd certainly be happy to try them, but in the meantime this one was rather tasty.

Multiple pints at the Flying Saucer in Addison. Pours with a deep black body and a deep brown head. Aromas of rich chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, alcohol, raisins, and plums. Flavors are big, and rich with bitter baking chocolate, dark fruits and vanilla. Smooth and rich. Creamy consistency with medium bubbles and a touch of alcohol. Quite a tasty beer!

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a sweet roasted malt and smoke. Thin mouthfeel with a bitter malt and light hop with a lingering bitter finish. Alcohol present but not overpowering, a very good Imperial stout from Jester King.
