12 oz bottle. Nose is full of spices--cinnamon and ginger in particular. Pours reddish brown with a medium dissipating head, good lacing. Tastes like roasted malt. Sweet, then bitter. Kind of creamy. Medium bodied. Finishes alcoholic. This is much better than I remember it. I’ve always thought this beer was extremely overrated. Tonight it’s tasting pretty good, however.

bottle, pours brown with a medium tan head. Lots of spice in the nose, with some carmel malt. Sweet malt body with a bitter spice finish and some wet cardboard. Not a fan.

Courtesy beastiefan. Poured dark, almost black, thin fine layer of foamy bubbles. Aroma had hints of fruitiness and roast, with a seemingly citric or grassy hop nose. Flavor was pretty clean, with a cookie like malt. Semi-dry, the palate was on the lean side for a winter warmer, but regardless of that it was still a pretty nice beer that I’d never guess was 7%.

2002 Bottle thanks to paiste2002. Marked to have East Kent and Golding which are probably gone by now. Pours with a light brown head and a hazy dark brown body. Room filling aroma that smells like sherry from a foot away. Yup, sherry and raisins, with yeast, toffee, and marmalade. Smells similar to a well aged 2001 OSA. Taste is graham cracker, raisin, jam and a bit of cardboard oxidation. This might age a touch better than OSA in my book. Water like mouthfeel and light bubbles. This has aged gracefully! It is a really a great beer, I wish I had more of this vintage...

12oz bottle. Deep brown in color. The aroma is a little unpleasant, not sure if the beer is a little old or not. Full of caramel, toffee, and spice flavors. The relatively high alcohol also helps gives the beer a warming finish. Rich and satisfying, with a sweet brown sugar-cinnamon aftertaste.

Botte. Pours a dark ruby/brown color with a small light tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is very malty with black licorice and caramel. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is very bitter with roasted malt and hoppy finish. At first a little too bitter, but turned out to be a very good english strong ale perfect for a cold winter night.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown (with hints of red) and a medium to small head. Aromas of malts, caramel, roastedness, and some hops. Flavor is sweet, bitter, and a nice malt and hop balance allows this beer to be quite a good winter warmer.

Aroma of lightly roasted caramel. Mahogany color with a respectable beige head. Rather thin in body with very mild carbonation. LIghtly spiced sweet caramel witha little bitterness. The finish seems a bit vanilla, a bit caramel, but the bitter builds enough to help out. Complex fruit flavors? Maybe next time. It is a very good ale. Seriously.

12 oz bottle from Bottle Barn; Nose is caramelly, sweet strawberries and dark cherries, and a vanilla note; bing cherry red colored with a medium straw head; flavor has caramel, cherries, light hop bitterness, and some spice. Finish is moderate hops! Unusual but good!

On draft at the brewpub, downtown Seattle. It pours a clear deep amber with decent tan head and some sheet lacing. The beer was served way too cold. It was difficult to get a good read on the aroma and it didn’t taste as good this cold either. What I was able to smell was mild roasted maltiness and faint fruity esters. The taste, once it warmed some, was a mild burst of roasted malts followed by a stronger cherry, prune and plum fruitiness. I also noticed some mild pine hop bitterness that grew to nearly a moderate level bitterness in the finish.
