Well this was surprisingly good, a nice smooth porter. The vanilla component was mild, mainly noticeable in the flavor. Overall it featured a dry roasted flavor with some mild chocolate and a full rounded semi-creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is roasted malt coffee and chocolate. Thin mouth feel with a very smoky flavor and roast with light dry finish. Very easy to drink a very good porter from Magic Hat.

Picked this up in a variety pack.

A - 4-Finger head erupts out of nowhere. Tight lacy bubbles. Poured a deep brown with a little blackness. Looks like a standard porter.

S - Roasted malts, nutty malts and some chocolate malts are present. There’s some spiciness but hard to pinpoint.

T - Huge malt characteristics in this beer. walnuts, chocolate, cream and thick roastiness. Slight boozy taste.

M - The nutty malts linger for a while but it’s a fine beer with medium carbonation and medium body.

O - Surprisingly good. Magic Hat lets me down far too often. It’s a very drinkable beer, low ABV and very easy to gulp or sip.

On tap at the mad mex robinson. Nice dark looking pour, looks attractive. The aroma is also attractive, slight hint if roastiness on the olfactory. First taste is mild yumminess, easy going and friendly. On target for this lager lover. Very mellow and I like it that way. Has a slight tart background. Burned wood but not over the top in any charactar. Good overall beer drinken experience, easily the best of the beers I had here today. Could drink a few of these gems.

Magic Hat Brewery: Pours a blackish color with a niceish head. Generally, I don’t like vanilla porters. I usually find them to be too sweet, with too little porter character. This was a pleasant exception to that rule. The vanilla was very subdued and the vanilla flavor that was there was in good measure. Really nice burnt/roasted malts. Excellent body. All around a good job from Magic Hat. It’s not that I don’t like vanilla; I just think I don’t like vanilla extract. This got the beans.

I am really surprised at the good rating that this beer has on here as to be it was pretty awful. +++ Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a black color with a medium sized dark tan head that faded and left good lacing. The aroma was woody, earthy and a bit roasty with a presence reminiscent of moldy autumn leaves. The flavor was dry, woody and a bit roasty with faint touches of coffee and cream. The finish was medium length wood, earth, roast and leaves. Medium body.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a shaker. Tan head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dark chocolate and roasted espresso aromas. Thin with sweet dark caramel and vanilla upfront and a dry lasting milk chocolate finish.

Fresh out of the growler at the ac beer fest ’07..thanks Matt and Wayne....a beautifully crafted beer pouring a dark brown with little head (from the growler I wouldn’t expect it to)...rich vanilla and malt aroma...perfect texture, exceptional vanilla in the purest sense...so rich it could almost be confused with a stout...thanks magic hat!
