Vom Jubiläumsbier zur Stammkraft – unser E.T.A., rauf und runter ein echtes Dunkles. Es wurde 2008 anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahres „200 Jahre E.T.A. Hoffmann“ für die Mahrs Bräu nach altem Braurezept hergestellt. Dass es dann einen Stammplatz bei uns bekommen hat, muss einfach an seiner Würze, seinem unterschwelligen Schokoladenaroma und seiner dunklen, nussbraunen Farbe liegen. Das fanden unsere Gäste nämlich von Anfang an großartig.

50cl bouteille @ Vagabund Brauerei, Berlin. BB 05/05/2014. Brune claire, col blanc cassé. Arôme est léger sur des notes de caramel, grillé avec un léger biscuité et une petite pointe de réglisse. Palais est malté, caramel, légère pointe de fumé? torréfié, caramel accompagnés d’un fruité noir modéré. Amertume venant des houblons arrive en fin de bouche et ajoute une belle balance aux malts. Simple mais solide.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas are dark sugar, toffee. Taste is more of the same. Texture is thin and finishes sweet too. One dimensional.

bottle at home ... deep brown ...bubbly tan head ... soft sweet toffee ... roasted suger nose ... soft sweet toffee ... soft sugers ... light bitter almost burnt sweet malts ... doesnt taste completed to me.

Nose is lots of bread, leather and malt. Nice. Appearance is a lovely tan colour. Taste is bread, toffee, nuts, slight spice, sweet oaky finish. Palate suitable. I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.

Das Bier habe ich anno 2013 oder 2014 eigentlich nur gekauft, weil es mich erinnerte, wie ich während meiner Schulzeit den Goldenen Topf von E.T.https://www.bier-index.de/biere/eta-hoffmann-dunkles-lagerbier.html#all-ratingsA. Hoffmann lesen und interpretieren musste. Da ich absolut nichts von dem verworrenen Schreibstil verstand und es auch noch kein großes Wikipedia gab, kassierte ich gleich einmal eine Fünf (in Österreich die schlechte Note). Das Bier ist ein bayrisches Dunkles mit malzigen Körper und leicht hopfigen Spitzen. Der dunkle, leicht brotige Kern verleiht dem Bier zusätzlich zum Namen eine gewisse Schwere und Würde. Ein gutes Bier mit einer netten Beigeschichte.

Color is dark, but light for a dunkel. Thins beige head, aroma of malt and sourdough. Taste is rye and very slightly sour. A different sort of dunkel, hard to judge against the norms for the style.

Bottled at Monks Cafe, Stockholm. Clear dark brown, small head. Mildly roasty with notes of butter and hay, some chocolate. Quite dry with rounded mouthfeel. Mid bitter finish.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, dark bread, raisins and ryvita. Malty taste with caramel, dark bread, raisins, hints of orange peel and a moderate spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Well balanced, but hardly daring. Quite decent.

500ml bottle bizarrely from Green Berry in Walmer. Just what is this beer doing here? Chris said that he gets some beers from a german bloke who brings the beers over. Wow. Clear deep brown colour with lasting beige head. Malty aroma. Malty beer. Fairly easy to drink. Bit of dry malt flavour on the finish. Bit of herb on the hop on the finish. Some sting on the tongue on finish. Quite an intense aroma. Easy drinking. Malty lager. Good.
