Vom Jubiläumsbier zur Stammkraft – unser E.T.A., rauf und runter ein echtes Dunkles. Es wurde 2008 anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahres „200 Jahre E.T.A. Hoffmann“ für die Mahrs Bräu nach altem Braurezept hergestellt. Dass es dann einen Stammplatz bei uns bekommen hat, muss einfach an seiner Würze, seinem unterschwelligen Schokoladenaroma und seiner dunklen, nussbraunen Farbe liegen. Das fanden unsere Gäste nämlich von Anfang an großartig.

Bottled 500ml. -from random store in Bamberg. Dark amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, honeyish caramel nose. Moderate malty, caramel and light dried fruits with bready and mild nutty notes in the finish. Better than Thurn und Taxis St. Wolfgang Dunkel we tried earlier.

Another one courtesy of ogivlado (thanks!). Poured a slightly pale brown, bronzey colour. Honeyish soft malty nose. Honeyish light slightly sweet taste, quite nice, light tart fruity hopiness (green fruit), sligthly herbal, but no bitterness. Some unfortunate fishy notes show up too. Interesting, not great but ok.

Bottle. Chestnut coloured with a decent off-white head. Nutty, slightly roasty aroma with a bready edge. Flavour was malty, avoiding excessive sweetness, with some hazelnuts and dryish finish. Very good.

Im malzigen Antrunk sind wässrige Nuancen erkennbar, die erst später mit Karamellnoten gefüllt werden. Dazu leicht herb, frisch, ausgewogen. Im Mittelteil würziger, das Karamellaroma breitet sich auf geringem Niveau aus. Zum Ende leicht schokoladig. Nett. 7/10/11/11/12/11

Dark ruby color, small off-white head. Grassy, toasted, a bit toasted caramelly aroma with hints of cocoa. Medium-bodied. Chocolate, caramel, yeast - kind of unclean but not unpleasant feeling. Soft palate. Different, but tasty dunkel.
