Has a clear spice to it, must come from the beans. Very dry, clean and crisp. Almost cold brewed-like. Twisted pine Boulder

Bottle. A- Espresso, coffee, mocha, chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Coffee, espresso, mocha, milk chocolate, slightly roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- The aroma on this is robust and out of this world. Like a straight cup of java with a nice chocolate sweetness to it. The taste is about the same but not as much flavor. A little on the blander side. Still an excellent brew for the price and a great one for the coffee lovers.

Ridiculously rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall pure brown head. Aroma of rich roasted coffee, caramel, toffee, earth, nuts, milk and bunches more sweet flavours - very nice and pungent smell. Medium-bodied; Strong rich roasted malt flavour with some instant coffee flavours, nothing horribly pure, with a deep nuttiness, some subdued milk flavours and a smooth cherry finish at the end. Aftertaste is nice with some good nutty sweetness and some roasted malt flavours, but the coffee doesn’t come out much at all at the end. Overall, a nice beer with some good nutty and milk flavours, but not an espresso stout or one with a lot of character. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 25-January-2014 for US$6.99 [after my 15 month old daughter lifted one out of our cart and had it explode on the ground] sampled at home in Washington on 07-April-2014.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home on Thanksgiving morning. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma and flavors of chocolate and coffee. Medium to heavy bodied, high carbonation, toasty finish. Smooth and tasty.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick an black with a large creamy dark brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was anise, floral hops and bitter coffee. The flavor was strong coffee, black licorice, floral hops, perfume and hints of cocoa, roasty malts and wood. Medium length finish of coffee and black licorice. Full bodied and smooth. Solid but I was hoping for better.

Sample at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: The beer pours jet black with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and subtle coffee. Light to medium body with a roasty character consisting of malt and coffee, plus a bit of chocolate. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle: Dark brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Really nice espresso aroma with plenty of roast and chocolate. Same in the flavor. The espresso quality is very nice here... good balance of roast, chocolate, and bittersweetness overall. Not to sweet or that cheap artificial coffee flavor - this is the real deal. Solid.

Tap @ brewery. Black appearance with a dark brown head. Freshly ground black coffee, cocoa, roasty aroma. Somewhat bitter, very roasty, dark espresso, cocoa flavor. I’d buy it again.

Pour is a black with a huge tan head. Aroma is a nice dark roasted coffee with a bit of char. Flavor is coffee and it gets stronger as the beer warms. Finish leaves a nice roast on the tounge. One of those beers that’s probably going to be for coffee lovers only but it is quite soild as a beer to try.
