Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Bottle: as "Finestkind IPA" Nearly clear, yellow-amber with a short, off-white head. Sweet, fruit/resin aroma. Taste is clean, bright pine bitter....tropical and grapefruit peel.... Nice, solid bittering throughout, even a touch of spice in the hops.... Nice One.

18 Jan 2013: on-tap in Alfie’s (9th Ave), New York. Pint glass, misty rather than cloudy, mini haze almost, golden body with a moderate head of white foam which didn’t last a whole while. The nose was all hop aromas, grapefruit and lemon esters: these flavours were also in the taste as well as some spicy hints. I’m not a huge IPA man but this was fine. -2 outside, this set me up nicely for the warming session I was about to embark on. The body and alcohol level suited each other and although very hoppy (for a visiting Brit) I really enjoyed it as we rarely have such brews in the UK.

Bottle. Rich yellow color, white foamy average head, hops aroma, very strong bitter hoppy taste, fizzy, bitter long finish. Very very liberal use of hops I think!

Bottle. Very kick butt ipa - strong and distinct. Tastes of a well made craft beer. Fits I’ve heard of this company. Quite nice

Bottled. Dark golden colour, almost orange, with a good presence of a white head with perfect lasting and average lacng. Aroma is fruity, notes of peaches, orange and grapes, good presence of a maltiness mixed with hops. Flavor has a decent bitterness, light notes of resins, pine and orange. The final has a decent bitterness with a good duration.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 5/26/2013. Pours cloudy golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of orange, pineapple, grapefruit, citrus rind, floral, pine, grass, bread, light caramel, and earthy hops. Very nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, pine, citrus rind, pineapple, bread, floral, grass, light caramel, and piney spiciness. Nice amount of piney citrus bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, bread, and piney spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice hop flavor balance and complexity; with just enough malt balance to not be overpowering; and minimal cloying bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, sticky, and crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent IPA. Great balance and complexity of hop flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering as expected.

Mycket snygg etikett.

Mycket snygg etikett.

It pours a golden orange/yellow and gives the same color body while leaving some awesome speckled light lacing. The head is about an inch thick and its white. The smell has the hops in front, malts are very subdued. The taste is the same. The mouthfeel is about a light to medium, could have about half the sixpack within a session. Overall, very good American IPA, seek it out if you like this style and grab some barbeque food to go along with it. Great stuff.
