Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

(350mL bottle from a friend) Poured cool, a golden amber with a moderate haziness, and a fluffy white head. Aroma of grapefruit rind and pith, orange, grass, a little pine, and slight caramel notes from malt creeping through. Flavour initially a mix of moderate bread and sweetness from the malts and fruity citrus and grass from the hops. A little astringent citrus in the middle and then a sudden wave of bitter, resiny pine hops kicks in, finishing dry and with persistent bitterness. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation. A good, solid IPA; not as aromatic as ideal and a little aggressive a transition to bitterness mid-palate, but quite drinkable.

Everything as claimed in the description. A strong, sharp bitterness bites the tongue from the first sip. Some sticky lacing on the glass, thin head on hazy golden body. A sipper for sure...

Enjoyed in Brooklyn. Pours a deep golden colour with a long lasting cap that leaves a thick coat over the brew and great lacing. Small particules float around. Grainy nose with a little hop. The hop comes out a little more on the taste with some grapefruit notes. Pretty bitter (not to the max though) and still refreshing.

355ml bottle from Cask Pub, London

Pours clear orange with a nice sticky and foamy white head. Aroma of some not so fresh fruity hops and malts. Taste is quite bland with some fruity hops and bready maltiness still left. Finish is slightly sweet and fruity with mild hoppy notes. Has seen its best days, would probably be completely different from a fresh bottle. 7-4-7-3-13 = 3.4. Re-rated on 22.4.2016, 355ml bottle from Alko. BBE 29 SEPT 16. A bit more fresh, but still quite malty and sweet fruity. Okay.
