A huge, sweet Barley Wine with complex caramel malt notes, balanced by generous hopping and a high alcohol content. This fruity and malty beer is best enjoyed while keeping warm in the brutal winter months. January release.

Bottle, vintage 2009, kindly shared by gunnar. Amber to orange colour, low head. Nice aroma of sultanas and dark dried fruits. The flavour has also notes of raisins, sweet malts, alcohol and decent hops.

2010 Vintage. Sampled at the 3 Floyds event at the Brickskeller. Pours a clear, copper amber with a very frothy, off white head. Metallic aroma, biscuit dough, C hops, a little rank, tropical fruits. Flavor is sweet, butterscotch, oranges, caramel, candy, sticky fruits, a little bread, mango. Full bodied and bitter. Iโd had aged versions before, and Iโd say this wasnโt my favorite barleywine when fresh. ******Re-rate of a complete vertical in January 2011. 2005 bottle was oxidized, had a great leathery nose and plenty of raisin and sherry in the flavor. My favorite vintage. 2007 bottle had more caramel and a little bit of wood in the nose and flavor. Third best. the 2008 bottle had lots of fading citrus, mint, citrus peel, oranges. 4th best. 2009 bottle had lots of grapefruit and the alcohol was a little overwhelming of the flavor. Worst of the bunch. 2010 batch had bright hops, lemon and a touch more malt than the others. 2nd best batch.

Bottle from a trade with phaleslu. Green Wax 2010 vintage. I really wanted to try a fresh bottle with lots of hops. Pours dark brownish color with tan head. Typical 3 Floyds huge hop aroma with some maltiness. Juicy hop flavor with lots of sweet maltiness. Medium to full body with average carbonation. Excellent! Thanks Peter.

Yellow wax, vintage 2006 released 2007, 3 years old
Hazy dark amber color; small, persistent creamy head. Huge caramel, malt and hop aroma, light Bourbon vanilla too, nuts, light sweat, and light raisins. Good body strength, full malt flavor, caramel, sweet but not syrupy, sweet nuts too; strong bitterness, resiny and a bit fruity, with raisins; itโs actually less aggressive than modern American samples, and closer to my beloved Thomas Hardyโs Ale. The alcohol just creates a warming feeling in the end. Powerful and yet well balanced.

Bottle, 22oz. Itโs an almost clear, golden beer with an off-white head. Resiny, grapefruity nose with malts in the background. Fluorine, beefstock and some roasted hints as well. Pretty much the same in the mouth, but slighlty more pronounced, and with a wonderful bitterness. Bitter, sweet and malty finish. Full-bodied and slighlty warming. A really lovely beer, maybe a tad on the sweet side though. 090828
