courtesy of Tony at OTH. 06 version. pours deep dark orange with no head. Aroma is malty with strong scent of brown sugar/caramel. Taste, malty, sugary with very light hints of hops that had some light grapefruit bitterness and caramel. Simply delicious.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Hazy amber color with a beige head. Aroma of pine needles, resin, some cookies, malt, some fruitiness and a bit of alcohol. Sweet malty flavor at first with some dark bread, caramel and some plums notes turns into bitter piney hops. Full-bodied. Good stuff.

Bottle at home ... leaving me only 2 more to complte my top 50 beers with 250 ratings...2007 bottle ... deep copper big foam head ... big sweet american hop with a fair ammount of malt in nose ... big sweet piney citrus hop ... lots of caramel ... light vanilla ... warming soft spirit ... medium bitterness... soft carbonation ... Think this would age wonderfully.

Clear reddish amber with tiny off white head. Sweet aroma with plenty of hops, toasted malt and caramel. Serious amount of hops in the flavour with grapefruit and pine notes. This one finished delicious bitter.

OK, does it count if I’ve only tasted this as part of a recipe? Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown made a caramel sauce for an ice cream Sunday out of this beer, and paired it with a Moloko Stout during a Three Floyd’s tasting given by two f the brewers. Great combo, and delicious sauce. Thumbs up for beer-food pairings, and the use of beer in recipes.

Bottle at the Angry Fist of Santa tasting at Chris o’s. Thanks Harry. Hazey reddish amber with thin beige head. Aroma of lovely grapefruit hop. Really nice, bit of musty malt as well, really lovely hop, a bit minty. Not as good as something like old crustacean, bit musty and oxidised. Bit too sweet. 3.2/5 Re-rate Bottle at LCRBM 5 at Kulminator. Hazy copper no head. Quite nice good big US hops typical US barley wine, but done well.

2007 (yellow wax) thanks to pepsican. I just was able to find 2008 (purple wax) today at Lone Hill Liquors in Los Angeles. Viscous pour. Hazy amber color with not much head but good lacing. Aroma of Molasses, caramel, pine, grapefruit and a bit of rochefort. Taste is pine and molasses, with some nuts towards the finish (and the finish is a bit bitter. Syrupy.

yellow wax bottle - Pours dark amber with a one finger light tan head. It has an aroma of caramel malt, dark fruits, a little hops, and possibly a touch of oak. The flavor is at first sweet malt with some dark fruit notes, then the ample hops kicks in to provide balance and a moderately bitter finish. It’s not quite as full bodied as I expected. I didn’t find this one hot and it was actually surprisingly easy to drink. I had to slow myself down as I know how potent it is.
