Hazy Amber with a medium off white head. Aroma had hints of exotic fruits. Flavor had lemon and mango. Finished dry and bitter. Could do with some more aroma hops.

My first APA from Germany - American-style craft beers are popping up all over the world, that much is clear. Single hop beer, hopped with Citra, which is infamous for being volatile and unfortunately, the bottle has just passed its best before date. Milky, yellowish white, finely structured head leaving a consistent veil and a steady rim, colour hazy light peach blonde with a vague greenish hue to it. Aroma still shows off a lot of Citra, this has clearly been kept in cool conditions in order to preserve its delicate bouquet for as long as possible: I still get quite a lot of tangerine, lime, lychee, passion fruit, ripe peach, hints of freshly toasted bread, cedar needles, dry banana, raw rhubarb, pear, baker’s yeast or even some sourdough. Crisp onset of apricot, redcurrant and passion fruit, sweetish and sourish, gentle, with a medium carbo effect, just a tiny bit minerally; smooth and slick mouthfeel with lean, supple body, nicely honeyishly malt sweet with the malted wheat coming through subtly as a subtle ’basic’ sourishness which actually supports the hops quite well. Finishes in aromatic and only lightly bittering hoppiness, very citrussy (with even a delicate lemon blossom fragrance) and juicy, a bit spicy even, with medium duration and somewhat oily feel but allowing enough malt sweetness to come through to establish the malts-hops balance you’ll find in any good APA (rather than IPA). I am convinced this is a lot more appealing young, when the aromatic citrus hops are at their best, but at this age this is still very enjoyable, straightforward (as any APA) and very quenching on a day of over 30° C.

Bottle, from Liebick Getranke, on the train to Ulm 07/02/15. Hazed orange amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is citric peel, pale malt, juicy hop notes, tangerine, straw, melon. Taste comprises citric hop presence, light pine, straw, mandarin, tangerine, light grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a hoppy wash. Decent enough hoppy sessioner.

bottle in 87, Stuttgart. yellow hazy color, medium big head. smells fruity, citric, orange, kiwi, grapefruit, also some sour smell, combination is a bit weird. medium body, citric, orange, lemonade, hemp, light sweetness, light sour taste, some funk, light watery, light astringent / sour finish. I dont like the sourness on this, light watery taste ... and what happened to the finish?
