We're best known for brewing aggressive, big-character beers, but we love a great sessionable ale as much as anyone. Most beers at the less-weighty end of the spectrum lack flavor and depth as much as they lack high ABVs, but not Stone Levitation Ale! This deep amber brew has a rich maltiness, big hoppy character, citrus overtones, and an impressively modest alcohol content for a beer with so much flavor packed into it.

Growler - pours a medium amber, with an impressive, foamy head - the aroma has the explosion of earthy, citrusy hops you’d expect from Stone, with underlying notes of toffee and fruity esters - those hops in the nose are quite nice - light-bodied and very sessionable - dry and quite bitter up front - the beer remains dry for a while, but the bitterness mellows, and notes of cocoa, cherry, and toffee come after that - a wee bit of brown sugar sweetness on the end keeps it from being overly dry - quite a lovely session ale.

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.Clear dark red amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is metalic. [20090111]

courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours copper, white head. Aroma, hoppy, malty, some dark fruits and berries. Taste, hoppy, some sweet honet with malts. Remains very light to drink, with hoppy finish. For 4% abv this is one light and amazingly flavorful beer.

Deep russet color. Hoppy nose, but not as in your face as many Stone beers. Body is light, but aroma hops once again shine through. Very little bitterness at the end. Very much like the Pale Ale, but without the bitterness. Nice beer.

12 oz bottle. Finally made it to the DC market, and it was well worth the wait. Pours an copper color with a small white head. Aroma is malts, sweet fruits, and hops. Flavor is a well balanced beer of malts and hops, but contains an unexpected hop kick, which was not expected considering the assumption that this is a "light" beer. One of the best session beers I’ve ever had.

Pours bright mahogany into a shaker. Off-white micro head with good retention leaves spot lacing as it recedes to coat surface. Dark caramel and grapefruit aromas. Thin with caramel and a lasting bitter resin finish.

Bottle at home from BoE ... Copper off white head ... spicy hoppy nose ... big sweet pine and grapefruit hop ...very juicy ... nicely rounded and nice to see a good mid 4% ale from the US. CASK at BSF GBBF 2010 ... SIMCO version ... copper brown ... cheesy dull soft hop nose ... light bitter hop ... ... little woody ... fruity hop ... dry bitter hop linger 3.5

I was really looking forward to this beer after I found out the alky content, 4.4%! Smell is hoppy but looks like a decent rootbeer. Clear brew. Wow, very hoppy initially on the palate, more than I expected. I used to think that the alky brought out the hops but now I know better. However, it does lack the volatile bite so common with the higher alky hopped brews. There is hop bite but it is more appreciated without the alky burn. Interesting for somebody who really does not care for IPA or DIPA. Big bitter lingering hop finish. Comes across much more than 4.4%. Not real enjoyable but I can enjoy more this more than most high hopped brews.

Bottle from a box ordered from Beers of Europe, consumed 01-02-09 Pours wonderful dark reddy brown with an off white head. Really fresh hoppy aroma with some malt. Taste is really fresh green hops, loads of citrus, some maltiness joins in the afray, its very simple but very nice. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV13 3.5

Bottle. Mahogany pour with a little beige head. Aromas are pretty thin... a bit of a medicinal pine edge. Flavor is about the same... medicinal side takes much of the enjoyment out of this particular beer. I just don’t care much for this.
