We're best known for brewing aggressive, big-character beers, but we love a great sessionable ale as much as anyone. Most beers at the less-weighty end of the spectrum lack flavor and depth as much as they lack high ABVs, but not Stone Levitation Ale! This deep amber brew has a rich maltiness, big hoppy character, citrus overtones, and an impressively modest alcohol content for a beer with so much flavor packed into it.

Cask@GBBF. Clear amber color, small white head, some lace. Sweet and hoppy aroma: some lime, caramel. Hoppy (some cat pee), grass, alcohol, caramel. Long sweet hoppy aftertaste.

Draught at GBBF 2009. An amber coloured ale. Light hoppy aroma. Taste of hops, malt, honey. Decent low alcohol ale from Stone Brewing Co.

Bottle from Realale.com. Deep amber in colour with next to no head. Big, citrus hops and honeyed malt aroma. Flavour of grapefruit, orange blossom and a dash of pine, with a prickly, dry finish. Very good.

On tap. Clear amber golden with an off-white head. A little caramel and hops in the nose. Medium body, sweetish burned caramel but a rather subdued malt feel. The finish is dry and lightly hoppy. Very quaffable. 070709

Bottle Pours out a dark amber topped with a small off white head. Aroma of crisp pine hops. A toast malt. Tast more of the crisp hops, a little floral. Malts are well done . A little melon and light bitter at the end. A nice daily drinker.

Pours clear copper color with light tan head. Aromas of floral hops and bready malts. Grassy and pine hop flavors with lightly toasted malts. Light to medium body with soft carbonation.

Sampled on draft at Smokin Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a trace of a beige head. The aroma was fruity, nutty and had a caramel undertone. The flavor was bitter and had a slightly rough fruity and floral hop presence with a light sweet malty undertone and a touch of caramel and nut. The finish was medium length and full of fruity and floral hops. The mouthfeel was moderately thick. Subtle for a Stone product. Nicely done.

Draught. Deep amber with frothy white head. Citrusy and roasty aroma. Malt flavour, with hop, citrus bitterness balancing. Lasting hop finish. Actually tasted stronger than it is. This would make a good session beer.

Had a growler of this filled from Big Z beverage in Huntington NY. Pours a transparent, deep ruby amber with a frothy white head. Aroma is very hoppy for an amber ale, citrus hops, some pine, light sweetness. Here’s where this beer becomes very ingenious. At first the flavor whacks you with hops, citrus, lemons, some light pine. There’s also some carmel sweetness and a light cracker flavor. Funny thing about this was the complete lack of hop bitterness. It had all of the flavor of hops with very little hop bitterness. Sessionable and easy to share.
