We're best known for brewing aggressive, big-character beers, but we love a great sessionable ale as much as anyone. Most beers at the less-weighty end of the spectrum lack flavor and depth as much as they lack high ABVs, but not Stone Levitation Ale! This deep amber brew has a rich maltiness, big hoppy character, citrus overtones, and an impressively modest alcohol content for a beer with so much flavor packed into it.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma was quite one note with pine notes from the hops. Flavor had grapefruit notes was from the hops but there was a bit of an undertone of roasted malts.

On tap, at first I thought it was very close to a ruination ale, but i could soon tell why this ale does not get a higher rating. The hoppiness is great, usual of Stone, but then there is this malt kick at the end that leaves the finish too sweet. One of those beers that tastes great at first and your really sick of by the end.

12 oz bottle. This is an amber? It tastes like no other amber I’ve ever had. That’s a compliment. When I first heard that Stone created an amber ale, I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t seem like something this hop-obsessed brewery would do. Then I tasted it. It has Stone written all over it. Most ambers are too malty for my taste. This beer is balanced nicely with plenty of hops. Smells of sweet malt, a little musty. Pours brownish amber, small head, good lacing. Tastes of raisins. The label says it all: there’s more character in this 4.4% alcohol beer than any other beer I can think of in this range. Well done, Stone.

One-third pint, gravicask. Deep, dark amber body with a bubbly, off-white head. Rather sharp aroma of dried fruity with malts behind. Mid-bitter orange shells in flavour developing into a bitter, pine hoppy ending. Medium bodied. A flavoursome session beer (GBBF, 04.08.2009).

Bottle pours a clear mahogan with a dense beige head.Lovely malt and hop aroma.Slightly citrusy and sweet ans woody. Flavor os woodand leathery with a surprisingll sharp bite. Lingering bitterness that seemed prett toigh for an amber. But this IS Stone after all. Snappy and brisk and full of flavor for 4.4 pct.

Cask@GBBF2009. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, grass, quite brutally bitter hopping. Flavour is grass, lots of nectar, some floral hops as well as some citrusfruity ntoes. Very good for being "only" 4.4% in ABV.
