We're best known for brewing aggressive, big-character beers, but we love a great sessionable ale as much as anyone. Most beers at the less-weighty end of the spectrum lack flavor and depth as much as they lack high ABVs, but not Stone Levitation Ale! This deep amber brew has a rich maltiness, big hoppy character, citrus overtones, and an impressively modest alcohol content for a beer with so much flavor packed into it.

Bottle from Kris Wines, London. Poured a dark amber colour with a smallish off-white head. Aroma had its fair share of fragrant hoppage and caramel sweetness and wasnโt bad at all. Things started to slide a bit from this point though. Palate on the thin side. Similar sweet malt and hop mingling in the flavour, but the balance doesnโt really come off. Not very satisfying and not up to Stones usual high standards.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, resinous hops, pine and grapefruit. Flavour of pale malts and hops - well-balanced. Not really too special for Stone.

This is one impressive amber ale. Poured from 12 oz bottle, aroma is rich in malt and hops with a bit of roasted caramel, hop aroma is rather grassy. Pours that nice amber copper with a decent head that sticks to the glass. Taste is full bodied, not too sweet and bitter. I wasnโt expecting this to be hoppy when I bought it, but itโs much more bitter than I thought it would be. Using the standard 4 ingredients, Stone has churned out a rather impressive brew with this one.

11-25-09 --12 oz bottle--Wow!...the fluff on this thing just keeps on coming...pours cloudy medium brown-tan head--once mega foam settles--aroma is sweet light hops--light and refreshing with a little heartiness--well made--simple clean hop taste--light as can be but all there--the sea foam mega fluff leaves a nice lacing behind

Strong aroma of dried leaves, tea, and pineapple. Cloudy ochre, with many floaties, medium vanishing head. Medium bodied, malt backbone. Well hopped for the style with violets dominant. Subdued pine and dried leaf finish. Neat beer with personality. One of the more flavorful ambers I have had.

Growler. Pours a nice, light amber-red hue with a fine, white head. Nose is hoppy with some malt undertones. Flavor is decently rich with nice character of lightly roasted malts and a kick of hops on the tail. Crisp, bittersweet finish. Quite tasty.

4th June 2008. Light hop and malt - not bad but let down by a watery palate.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 11/8/09
Aroma: The aroma is citrus and orange hops, some caramel, some malts, and other fruits as well
Appearance: It pours a nice clearish red-amber color with a thick, frothy tan head, that leaves a lot of lace
Flavor: The taste is not quite as nice as the nose, but it is pretty good, pretty balanced between the hops and malts
Palate: The body is light-medium, but with a nice (I'll be it dry) mouthfeel, and slightly watery texture
Overall Impression: I'm surprised I've never rated this one before, I've had it quite a few times, and at 4.4% it remains one heck of a session ale. This one has a lot of the typically Stone qualities that I really like in their beers, and it is a very solid example of what an Amber Ale can be. Overall, it makes for a great session that you can enjoy many of considering the gravity of the beer. A really nice, quality session brew.
