Rating is from a growler (fermenter sample a week before was equally tasty, but is not used for this rating. Pours with a nearly completely clear deep ruby to brown body with a small, but lasting tan head. Aromas are huge with rich malt, melanoidins, caramel, light notes of dark fruit, esters, alcohol and light minerals, earthy and just a hint of a sweet smoke. Flavors are big and rich, huge caramelization. Somewhat assertively bitter for the style (although overall it isn’t very bitter; it balances well here). Alcohol, yes, there is some, sort of a brandy character, especially as it warms. Dark fruits, raisins, dates, melanoidins, caramel. Smooth but you do get some of the alcohol hit. Warming on your digestive tract after a few minutes, mild carbonation, full bodied. Smooth, creamy, very tasty. This might be my new standard for big (but unadulterated Wee Heavies)
