Bottle at home. Clear golden with short lasting white head that leaves some nice little islands. Very flowery, soap, milk, basil, mint, grass. Lots of fresh herbal notes, but with a musty malt base. Light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with slick feel.

355 ml. bottle. BBF 06/2017. Clear golden, touch orange, decent creamy white head. Nose is dull oily, grainy, stale citrus candy, butterscotch, oily, faintly mineral, old bread. Grainy, dull bread, oily, old stale candy, touch butterscotch, little hop, rather bland, bread, light dried orange, mineral, lightly metallic. Carb is a dash high. Pretty dull & lacking much character. Anchor dates way, way back (oldest still functioning USA specialty brewer if I am not mistaken), they were craft before craft existed & this recipe appears to date back to 1975. They deserve points for many things, unfortunately this one comes across as dull & touch lacking compared to modern varieties. It tastes actually a bit like an old bottle of a newer style USA specialty beer despite being quite fresh looking at the BBF date.

Can. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Lightly hazy orange. Messy, clingy, thickish, off white head. Fruity, syrupy malts. Tea like spice. Damp hop. Hint of pine bark. Taste is fruity bittersweetness. More of the tea like spice. Palate is pretty full. Easy drinking, though. Finishes long, light, peppery bitter.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/28/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy of white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, honey, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice pale ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. This one straddles the line between an IPA and pale ale in bitterness and malt character, but I’d be much more inclined to think of it as a pale ale overall. A very enjoyable offering.

Draught @ Waterfront Ale House. Faintly cloudy dark orange with small creamy off-white head, lightly hoppy sroma, slightly sweet hoppy taste, lavender flavor, orange peel, medium carbonation, smooth mouthfeel, long bitter finish. Very smooth and drinkable.

Bottle @home. I’ve had this one several times before. Pours golden/orange medium body, small but lasting off-white head. Rich hops aromas, orange, tangerine, citrus, sour fruit peels. Hints of malt, but hops prevail. Earthy aromas, a strong presence of citrusy sourness, bitter and dry finish, sour aftertaste. Medium, lively carbonation. Not my favorite one from Anchor, still an overall good one. Balanced and refreshing.
