Ale Brewed With Molasses & Ginger. Blackstrapped Ginger Stock Ale.
Our longtime brewer, Jon Hill, drew the short straw at the Manly Beer Club meeting. His charge: make a beer with two distinctly assertive flavors that must fight it out - yet work together. He opted to brew with raw blackstrap molasses and snap it back with fresh ginger root. Some called him crazy, to others he was quixotic, but to most he was Jon.

Bottle pours out brown topped with a small head. Nose is spice ginger molasses sweetness. Tatse is more of the nice molasses but the ginger takes over.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small foamy tan head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was ginger powder, faint toasty malts and a touch of vague fruits. The flavor was ginger powder, toasty malts, a tart and chalky presence and just fell off to water. Short watery ginger finish. Thin and watery body. Disappointing.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Shop Rite - Hoboken, 4/22/11

Aroma: The nose has some spice, there is some molasses present but not much ginger
Appearance: It pours a medium brown color with minimal beige head
Flavor: The taste is alright, lots of molasses, its sugary, very minimal ginger presence here as well
Palate: This one has a medium body, a decent mouthfeel, but it fades pretty quickly
Overall Impression: This stuff was alright. I mean it has a lot of sugary notes and some spice, but there isn't a ton going on beyond that. The ginger really isn't present in this one at all. I wouldn't rush out for it again, but it wasn't terrible either.
