Inspired by London’s Industrial Revolution when Smog filled the air and the Porter was the beer of the people. An original home brew recipe using 9 different malts including a good chunk of smoked ‘Rauchmaltz’ from Bamberg, Germany. Big flavour hits of molasses, raisins and caramel are cut with the resinous US hop Chinook. Smokey aromas fly, reminiscent of the smoke stacks of industrial London.

Cask at the Fox, Haggerston. Black with a thin grey head. Aroma of light woodsmoke, cocoa and Marmite. Taste is a gentle sweetness with a slight umami bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is lighter than I would have liked. A good beer but maybe not quite up to Beavertown’s very high standards to stand with their best.

Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is kind of strange, dark malts, salt, unripe banana, grass, caramel, roasted grain, cardboard, shed, grass, sour coffee, hints of smoked ham. Taste is slightly dry roasted, dark malts, grass, burnt caramel, roasted grain, coffee, hay, dark sugar, minerals, bark, cocoa, hints of smoke. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Pours extremelly deep black color, topped with a very decent and lasting dark cream head. A pleasant malty aroma, quite some caramel can be picked up, as well as slightly smoked. The taste is creamy and sweet, roasty with nice caramel. Very smooth and drinkable.

A deep dark porter with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light peated notes, veggies, bitter herbs, light coffee. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee notes, grassy hops, light peated notes, very nice. Cask Days 2014.
