La Curtius is a blond beer brewed using premium quality products, recognizable through its light taste and refreshing flavors. Composed with different barley malts and wheat, its base gives it a pleasant lightness while the addition of aromatic hop blossoms provide a subtle bitterness in conjunction with a flowery and fruity flavor. Its unique and progressive taste is the result of multiple fermentation steps, conducted over several months. Curtius deserved a quality and prestigious bottle suitable for the contents. This is why we chose a 37.5 cl corked bottle, just like champagne. Of course, Curtius is also available in kegs.

(Bottle, 0.375 l, bought at Slijterij Wijnhandel Acht Zaligheden, 20130713) The beer poured golden and quite cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had mustard, grilled sausage, yeast and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were Belgian style yeast, sweetness, mustard, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy and bitter. A bad and weird brew.

Bottle shared at home. Not a lot goin on with this - pours pale yellow with a small white head. What aromas you can pick up are lightly sweet and floral, some lemon notes. These reappear when drinking it, but the finish is very thin. Lacks substance.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus and Thompson. Medium sized white head on top of a hazy opaque pale yellow colored beer. Smell blossom, flowery, lightly herbs and spices. Taste lightly sweet, some herbs or spices. A bit soapy maybe. Mwah, not very good.

Metallic deep-golden, clear beer with fine pearling to fluffy white head, receding. Delicate, floral nose, with some fruity-sugary notes. Perfumed, peachy. Dry, floral & fruity flavours (again peach, somewhere, as in dessert), but with a little spiciness that is too coriandery to sit really easy with me, if thankfully not exaggerated. The wheat makes itself known as well, despite the absence of haze or sourishness. Generally speaking just a tad too sweet for my liking. Gristslickness; maybe medium bodied; long, bit sticky after’feel’. Good for a first try. I like the peach-like nose, but in the mouth it is too "nice & sweet". A more liberal dose of exotic hops might help...

20 Oct 2012: 37.5cl bottle @ the Diester Bierfestival. The beer looked more like a Witbier than a Tripel (which it is): cloudy/hazy lemon/orange colour with a thin white head. Fruity and hoppy, in both the nose and taste, some yeastiness also comes into play from the start. Nice easy drinking beer: nothing to excite the taste buds but a solid brew from this new micro.
