Quite a fun imperial stout, mischievous without being mean, spicy without being hot. Pours a viscous, deep black with little head, and the aroma offers up chocolate and coffee and a little vinous dark fruit underneath. Taste hits you with normal impy stout massiveness at first, thick and roasty and heavy, dark chocolate on licorice on bitter coffee with a mild fig-raisin back end. The coffee perks up right around the same time as the vanilla, creating a bold yet smooth sweetness that remains dry thanks to the hop-laced java bitterness. Anchos are the key, though: vegetal pepper rounds ouf the middle of the beer, and a mild but tangible Scoville kick makes the fade a fun little shindig. Finds a wonderful balance between dry, sweet, and spicy. Friggin’ awesome, in other words.

Aroma: Dark ripe berries, roasted malt and chocolate. Flavour: Dark roasted malt with fruity sweetness and notes of chocolate and vanilla. Aftertaste is malt and chocolate. Mouthfeel is creamy and alcoholic warm. Colour: Dark reddish brown with a fading offwhite head.

Huge thanks MacBoost! Enormous, complex aroma. Initially straight up cold brew coffee, but later on everything, literally everything the description says, chili first, then chocolate shows up, with chocolate getting stronger and stronger and later on vanilla linking the two, with coffee taking a bit of a backseat. Creamy too, but shame the alcohol knocks it down from a solid 9 in that aspect. Almost pitch black body, brownish head, classic RIS body. Taste...lovely cocoa taste at first, but some dry coffee mixing with meat slightly offset it. The coffee notes aren’t clean, it would’ve been wonderful otherwise. There is definitely a chili presence and a slight burn. And yes. Vanilla. Definitely vanilla. Now, I’d really LOVE to talk about stuff I’m tasting here that’s not in the actual blurb, but nothing apart from that shows up. All in all... everything ALMOST works together perfectly. Coffee, chocolate and vanilla, when they show up, mingle without any issues. The chili burn that masks any potential alcohol burn works well with them. But the actual chili taste doesn’t mix thaaat well with others. That said. At sips, this is a 4.4 beer for me. And that, if you know my scale, is fucking awesome. Some sips, it’s a 3.6. So let’s round it up at 4. Complex, interesting, good job!

Small bottle from Elizabeth Station. Pours an almost black with a dark beige head. Aroma is coffee, some vanilla and cocoa, corn flakes. Taste is sweet, pretty the same character, spicy. Good stuff if you like spices in the beer, but I am not a fan.

12 oz. bottle @ home, about a year old? Pitch black color. Light brown head not very much. Aroma’s: chocolate, vegetal/pepper, ground coffe, roast, sweet. Retronasal it’s about the same but different order: sweet, chocolate, peppers, roast, coffee. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, peppery, chocolate. Alcohol feel isn’t as strong as you’d expect with 13%. Medium bodied. Pepper heat is quite mild and not at all as distracting from the flavor as with some beers. Finishes roasty, with moderate bitterness. Really nice, and drinks deceptively easy.

Delicious! Pours a deep, dark, almost purple-black, with minimal head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and chili. Flavor is very smooth, with chocolate, vanilla, some licorice, coffee, just a touch of chili heat and the perfect amount of sweetness--not cloying or boozy. This is a really good stout.
