Originally brewed in 2005 as the first in our annual decadance series, AleSmith Olde ale follows the tradition of classic British-style old ales. This rich, multi-forward ale showcases soft notes of currents and dried fruit along with complex dark sugars, all of which are balanced by a subtle bitterness derived from the addition of traditional English hops. AleSmith Olde ale is ready to be enjoyed now or I can be age for upwards of twenty years to further enhance its amazing depth of flavor. A hearty ale designed to please Bacchus himself.

On tap at the taproom. As Old Ale. Dark reddish brown body under a small light beige head. There’s some lacings. Dried fruits, roasted malts, alcohol, dark chocolate and a hint of hops in the aroma. Sweet flavor with lots of dried fruits, some roasted malts and dark chocolate. Alcohol warmth in the mouth, full body, and a very pleasant carbonation. Long finish. Most definitely a nice one. Loads of nice flavors packed in one brew. 130814

75 cl bottle as ”Alesmith Decadence 2010” @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu. Rated on 4.12.2010
Aroma is rather sweet with lots of malt, some ripe fruits, caramel and toffee. Flavour is sweet with way too much grainy malt, caramel, ripe fruits and hints of biscuits. Very smooth and nice palate. Too sweet for me.

75 cl bottle @ olio
As ”Alesmith Olde Ale MMXV”
Aroma has oaky tones, calvados, apples? Also sweet malt and caramel. Flavour has sweet malty tones, alcohol (non-disturbing), sweet liquor, calvados and woody tones. Finishes with minerals and woody tones. Good still.

Thanks to absolutesites, I had an opportunity to try this at the 2nd Pgh Tasting on the 2nd. First off let me say that my palte is so immature that I should not be allowed to rate such refined beers, this is way outtah my league. From a big bottle as pictured. Yes, smell is ceratinly leathery and old. Looks somewhat like cream soda without a head. Big giant taste bud impressions leave me recovering in the back of my mind. Bitter, strong and alky. Does taste old fer sure. Way too much for my crying out loud girlie taste buds. I would think this is the anti-civilized of civilized. Over the top and quite impressive to say the least. Don’t know what others see in this and after 5 yeasr I guess my palate will never mature. Barely any co2 in this beer. Oily and mouth coating finish, almost cloying at times. Although I am not qualitifed to rate such a beer, I want to thank James for his kindness in letting me do so. At first he wasn’t going to, he had me in a head lock for a while but then he relented!

750mL bottle, split with manuchampions, pours murky dark reddish brown with a beige head. Nose is full of plum, raisins, figs, dates (dark dried fruit galore), caramel, slight licorice and a decent amount of sweetness. Flavour suggests a barley wine, with heaps of caramel, dark dried fruits, just the right amount of English hops, and some candied sugar. Excellent stuff.
