From notes. Great beer, Bottle poured into a shaker. Coffee, chocolate and loads of smoked malt. I’m really liking this beer. I think I can taste the Holy Water.

Bottled 2/2012. Aroma has balanced notes of dark fruit, chocolate and roast. The secondary notes in the aroma are smoke, tobacco and leather. The dark fruit esters are prune and dark cherry. A hint of alcohol in the aroma. Pours black with a small thick mocha head that slowly recedes but lingers as a thin film in the center and along the edges. Some light lacing an medium sized legs. Flavor is very nice - sweet milk chocolate and bittersweet chocolate dominate the front of the palate with some fruit creeping in. Mid palate you get roast, a bit of smoke and some tobacco as well as the dark fruit. In the finish you get more roast and smoke but balanced with some dark chocolate notes. Medium low bitterness and no hip flavor. Light alcohol note in the finish. There is a hint of raisin in the flavor as well as the dark cherry and prune found in the aroma. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. The astringency is low though it was stronger when cold. Alcohol warmth is moderate. A slight oiliness is present. Overall this is a surprisingly good stout. I certainly wasn't expecting such well integrated flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It pours a pitch black and leaves the same color body. A two inch heavy tan foamy head forms and gently dies into a film over the top of the body. Minimal lacing is left behind. The smell has heavy roasted malt, cocoa and coffee combined close to perfect. No alcohol is smelled even as the beer warms.The taste is the same with more of a well-liked smokiness/roastiness added. The palate is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. This is mostly drinkable. I thought it would be more of a sipper due to the high ABV. Overall, this is a great double stout that I would come back to, as the alcohol is well hidden throughout, perhaps I could’ve waited to have this a bit longer.

Pitch black, soft tan head, good lacing
Aroma - Rich dark caramel malts, deep dark chocolatey malts, really smooth aroma
Taste - Dark chocolatey malts, soft roasted malts, slight toffee, rich dark luxuriant malts, really smooth, abv very well hidden, great taste, maybe just lacking some depth in the flavour to be brilliant
Palate - soft carb, medium to full body, smooth , quite viscous. Finish as main flavour
Overall - Smooth, well made impy stout, super flavour initially but just needs a bit more going on. It just about gets 4.0...it was the #1 beer of the tasting
