Wet Hopped India Pale Ale

A Double Belgian India Red Ale that harmoniously joins big sweet malt aromatics with signature fruit and spice yeast characteristics. Flavors of toasted grain, caramel, dark fruit, and clove provide a perfect precursor to the substantial bitter contributions from the exclusive use of high alpha Bravo hops. The end result is a balanced blend of big grain sweetness, intense hop bitterness, and unmistakable yeast qualities.

Shared bottle, pour to shaker. Medium, red/copper. So hoppy I imagine I can smell them. A lot going on here and it’s all pretty good. Some red, juicy fruit; a bit of candie sugar; loads of hops and topped off with Belgian yeastiness.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/18/2014. Pours hazy ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, mango, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, light banana, pepper, clove, bubblegum, caramel, toast, candi sugar, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, mango, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, light banana, pepper, clove, bubblegum, caramel, toast, candi sugar, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spice and pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, mango, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, pepper, clove, bubblegum, caramel, toast, candi sugar, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark malt flavors; with a great hop/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian red IPA. All around great complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft at HopCat, East Lansing. Murky orange-brown body, thick tight cream-beige head. Spicy nose with some tart fruitskin, toast and bubblegum. Interesting spicy, leafy hops and rye body, some bubblegum and chewing tobacco notes. Nice rich body, good complexity and easy to drink. Very good beer.
