Nov 2009: Brown 500ml bottle obtained from the brewery on a visit earlier this year. Poured into a pint sleeve glass. Clear, light to medium brown body, white foaming head on top at first, the head slowly losing depth and becoming a wispy covering and collar. Flower garden smell, an English country garden at the height of its blooming period, must be growing toffee’s though! I am a big fan of ’Fuggles hops’ and their aroma. Although used in this brew, I couldn’t detect them. Biscuity, malty and fruity (apples, red berries and pomegranate). The flavours mix and semi-match, making this an interesting and complicated beer. The 5%ABV is evident, but well balanced for the body and richness of the beer.

Cask @ JDW Inverness
Caramel brown...slight haze...creamy frothy head...good lacing
Aroma - caramel malts...hint of yeast....some fruity malt
Taste of caramel malts...smooth malts...light bitter hops...some yeasty fruity ester...smooth toffee
Palate - soft carb...medium body..very smooth...creamy mouthfeel...oily texture. Finish has a slight hint of liquorice...increased bittereness...bitter hops come through much more...biscuity malt....lingering bit metallic bitterness.
Overall - Quire a good bitter with flavour but spoilt by that metallic edge on the bit over-lingering finish

Bottle. Slightly cloudy dark amber with almost no head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, flowers. Gentle carbonation - mouthfeel is pretty much like as from a cask. Taste has toffee and fruity sweetness - pears, berries - mingled with quite big lingering hop bitterness that’s a little spicy right at the end. A pretty good bitter that has bottled really well.

Half, cask at Wetherspoons in MK. Filmy, but lasting, white head. Golden-brown in body appearance. Aroma brings resin-like hops and sweet malts. Choco-caramel malts and herbal hops in flavour. Medium bodied. Smooth on the swallow. Above average (Milton Keynes, 21.03.2011).

(Cask at Castle, Chancery Lane, London, 24 Nov 2010) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins and dusty hops. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, toast and dusty hops in a fairly bitter finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Quite enjoyable.
