Again, the basic old and young lambic are matured in oak casks. But here we add to one year-old lambic about 400 grams of real cherries per litre. This creates a second fermentation in the casks. Oude Kriek Boon then undergoes a further fermentation in the bottle and has an alcohol volume of 6.5%. After several months, the flavour has matured to the desired taste.
Oude Kriek Boon is a test of your patience. It should lie about 2 years in the bottle. At first, it tastes of fruit, especially sour cherries. Oude Kriek Boon eventually evolves into a deep taste reminiscent of Port or Madeira wine. This is kriek at its best.

Tap at Akurrat, Stockholm. I enjoyed this a bit but I overall found it way too syrupy. It was very thick and had a lot of festive flavours like cinnamon, nutmeg and deep glacé cherry. For me, it felt almost artificial (which I know it isn't) but not so sure it felt natural like the cantillon beers do so well. (22/10/17) re-rated on tap at Bishops Arms Östersund. Bright red. Same thoughts this time, csnt see how this isn't an artificial product but hey. Too sickly syrupy sweet...nice anyway ofc . 3.5 to 3.6

Dark red (indeed looking very much like sour cherry) with a darkish pink/light purple head. Overall quite small, decent retention and some lacing. Aroma is mainly sour cherries plus some lemon notes, with an overall sweet/soft feeling of vanilla (or something in the likes). Very nice but not too intense. Taste follows the aroma, with sour cherries and some background notes (slight citrus/lemon, vanilla, almond, maybe a hint of wood). Overall more sweet than sour with sourness very much in check as typical per boon. Medium bodied with light to medium carbonation. Overall a very much domesticated and easy drinking fruit lambic. It's surely enjoyable but i didn't find it too interesting.

BOTTLE 37 CL. Hazy deep ruby, huge pink head with good retention. Funky aroma, moderate barnyard, sweat, green fruit acidity. Just a touch of dried cherry stickiness. The taste is dry, moderate lacto, green fruit. The cherry is dried and old without the sweetness, juicy acidity with no sharp edges. Very nice.

375ml bottle (2014 bottling) from Vanuxeem. Pours a deep red, pinkish white head. Lightly funky, light thorny cherry aroma. Taste is soft, fuzzy and perhaps not as sharp and bristling as the aroma might suggest. Still, a pleasant aged kriek with a soft funk presence.
