Here’s a new entry in the One Off [Banished] Series from Crux fermentation project. This is Wild Golden Sour Ale and it is a collaboration ale brewed with Crooked Stave. This beer was fermented in used Red wine barrels with a proprietary blend of wild yeast and bacteria.

Draft pour at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience 2017. Poured a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Aroma was light lemon notes, light mead aroma - honey. Light tartness, some vinous, woody notes.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with no head. The aroma is leather, wood, funk. Thin mouth, lemon zest, funk, oak, light dry finish, very nice.

Sampled at the Crooked Stave in The Source pours a clear gold with zero head. Looks like cider. Nose is interesting, it has some green apple notes, some pear, dandelion, lemon, under ripe passion fruit. Flavor is the same, a distracting level of green apple, white grape, lemon. Thin finish. Very underwhelming.

On tap @ Crooked Stave. Hazy orange appearance with a tan head. Aroma has some leather, light acetic acid, red wine, hint of cheese, and some cherries. The flavor is a bit rough. Moderately tart. Wood and dark fruit. Kind of strong. Finishes a little rough. Not one of my favorites.

On tap pours out a crisp golden with a ring of head only. Nose is citrus tangerines vanilla lots of barrel notes. Original review text: On tap at crux brewing bend. Pours out a crisp golden topped with a white head. Nose is big wine barrel big vanilla coconut and white grape. Taste is more of the heavy wine barrel big vanilla a nice tart sour pucker and spice.
