Hop Verdomme IPA

Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso - Old Town Alexandria. Poured a medium-to-light orange color. This poured with a small head. Aroma was citrus, a touch of cone hops, with plenty of yeast notes. Very light and crisp. Not quite sessionable, but enjoyable enough.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Cloudy amber, mid sized head. Rich floral hay-like hop aroma. Mid sweet with medium-full body. Plenty of marzipan and orange marmelade. Floral perfumy notes, some saccharine. Long resiny bitterness.

Bottle @ home. Clear orange to golden color, small to medium sized white head. Smell malts, a bit yeasty. Taste malts, a touch of sweetness, some hops, some bitterness. Typical Belgian IPA. Average body and carbonation. Typical Belgian IPA, not even a good one, very boring.

Tap @ Moeder lambic. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are cookies, hops, flowers, malt and fruits.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 05/2017. Sérieusement, si on se veut de faire une IPA on n’estampille pas cette dernière d’une date de péremption de 4 ans. Bref. Couleur dorée-orangée, col épais crémeux blanc. Arôme présente ce bouquet houblons neutres euros avec un bouquet belge distinct. Pointe herbacée pouvant rappelé le thé vert mais qui reste assez distincte. Palais reste plus centré sur les malts qui prennent, malheureusement, le dessus sur les houblons. Me semble plus à une belge pale ale avec ce côté foin-herbacé. Amertume citronné s’immisce péniblement en toute fin de bouche avec une chute qui continue à donner le beau rôle au malt. Ça reste correct, mais pour une IPA, l’occasion est légèrement ratée.

33 cl. bottle // Tacky label which I dislike – label clearly states in big print IPA. Pours orange with a smaller white head. Nose is slightly medicinal, clearly hops (BE/EU) but quite weird like old plastic mixed with recently expired oranges, stingy floral – non particularly unusual for BE/EU hops – with a big chunk of banana. Taste is strongly bitter but in a very floral, hay, plastic, medicinal kind of way, takes definitely getting used to it, green, light vegetables, disinfecting wads, very, very harsh grass, finish is sweet, green banana and sugar. Brutal Belgian / EU hops (bottle says locally grown but doesn’t state varietals used), very few can make that work. Very lightly fizzy, easy enough body. This a sweet Belgian Ale with a huge amount of BE hops thrown. Definitely nothing resembling anything close to an USA-style IPA. Takes a bit getting into but certainly enjoyable, just don’t notice the IPA description. (consumed @ home. Procured from Willems). BBF 05/2017 – serious ??? 4 years for a beer which they describe themselves as an IPA. Please stop doing this Belgian breweries also maybe try making USA style IPA’s.

11/VI/13 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: V/2017 (2013-550)

Clear light orange beer, very big irregular dense head, quickly falls down. aroma: very fruity, banana, floral, very soapy, some citrus and honey. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: yeasty start, lots of banana, citrus, soapy bitterness, bit sugary. Aftertaste: very soapy, bit unpleasant bitterness, grassy, spices, more banana and sugar. Very bitter and soapy ending. Doesn't feel very "clean". Just overhopping a Belgian ale does not automatically make it an IPA...

talk about a fresh IPA ... only 1 rating so far ? damn ! hopverdomme was a real big want, shame my first hopvertdomme is from another brewerie :) purchased at hopduvel ghent pours clear, yellow/ light amber. big white foam . smell is very ’green’ ( unripe vegetables ) soft carbo. bitter, very floral ! again the green aspect as well. i prefer american styles waaay more than this, though this is drinkable... just to much of these ’vegetable’ tastes for me .
