Chipotle Smoked Porter. A surprisingly approachable smoked porter, velvet smooth with a robust malt backbone. This is infused with Chipotles to give even more smokiness and a subtle hint of heat, a real winter warmer.

At GBBF. Smoked porter with thin and quickly dissolving, pale beige head; very dark burgundy colour with black ’soul’ but translucent on the edges. Aroma of smoked bacon, charcoal, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, black olives, raisins, bayleaf. Edged fruity onset, dried prunes, very walnutty, smooth and soft malt character, mildly smoked (pipe tobacco accent), toasted, even some roasted bitterness in the end, quite mouth filling, paired with a leafy hop bitterness. Very nice interpretation of the style.

Cask at the Railwaymans Arms, Bridgnorth. Dark brown, only the slightest bit translucent. A decent amount of creamy beige head. Caramel and fudge aroma with edges of lamb gravy, pecan pie and salted liquorice. Gentle and sweetish taste, with enough hop to lead the sip into a bitter/sour finish. Aftertaste of chicory, bitter chocolate and soy sauce. Decent if short of perfect.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Dark brown color with a slight deep dark red glare coming through when held into the light, small light brown head. Aroma is malts, some roast, coffee quite strongly. Taste malts, some roast again and also some coffee, light pepper, ash, lightly smoke, caramel, the slightest hint of butter in the distance but it’s too distant to bother and you’ve really got to search for it. Quite good.
