Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.
This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.
Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.
To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.
Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Cara, Smoked, Black and Roasted Barley
Hops: Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings

Sampled at CBC 2013. Opaque, pitch black color, small tan head. Smell malts, roasted malts, and loads of cocoa. Taste malts, roasted malts, chocolate, bitter and loads of cocoa. A real cocoa bomb! Full body, medium carbonation.

330mL bottle, pours a liquid black death with a medium brown head. Aroma is rich, full of vanilla, toasted oak, cocoa and molasses. Flavour is incredibly rich and complex, full of oak chips upfront, cocoa, vanilla beans, and only faint notes of the coffee. Finishes on notes oak and bitter dry cocoa. Extremely rich, with a medium body (for an impie stout). Excellent stuff - one of Brewdog's best.

Bottle on the train out of plastic cup [120413]
Jet black, great filthy tan head, some lacing
Aroma of rich dark chocolate, rich dark deep malts, soft dark coffee, main rich chocolate, not that roasty, soft charred wood in there, deep intense dark fairly sweet malts, great aroma
Taste of very rich chewy dark malts, lots of chocolate, soft coffee, rich plain chocolate, some dark wood, big time flavours here, alcohol well hidden, very malty, not really getting the vanilla, complex, hint of mellow burnt toast, great taste
Palate - Medium carb, full body, rich and smooth, some powdery cocoa in there, bit sticky. Finish a bit dry, rich dark malt linger with a dab of soft burnt wood, thick and rich, some alcohol warmth on the finish
Overall - A really good impy from BrewDog, very rich body, it’s even great out of a crappy ScotRail placcy cup

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Well I’ve previously described beers as pouring opaque but this is probably the most opaque black beer I’ve ever seen, even the head is like fairly dark chocolate. The nose has very obvious coffee and creamy dark chocolate. The taste has more of the dark chocolate and coffee and it slips into a liquorice finish. The palate is big and opulent with a creamy and dare I say relatively elegant finish. Overall, it’s balanced enough. There is really only one dimension to this, but that said, it is a pretty good dimension.

Pours black & viscous as motor oil; small olive-dark brown head, medium. Smoked nose, as with Rauchmalz; mineral, maltsweetness suggested in the backgroundd. Dry-bitterish, burnt-roasted, ashy... well, all the markers all there - except chocolateflavour, just the bitter dryness of cocoapowder. Retronasal I got roasted coffee. Rich, voluptuous feel; very dry and seemingly everlasting aftertaste. Oh darn - one can criticize the BrewDog guys for their commercial craving, but by Jove, they can brew!
