This Imperial Stout borrows from the voluptuary decadence of 18th Century Russia, with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cacao nibs and dark malts.
Dig past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips and eventually you’ll come face to face with the madness required to make this beer: a kind of depraved logic that would make Rasputin himself proud.
To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge egg.

C'est intense, c'est bien équilibré, c'est savoureux, bref c'est un imperial stout réussi qui satisferont les amateurs du style. Il y a d'ailleurs un peu de De Molen à la fois dans l'expression des arômes et l'onctuosité de la texture. N’attendez cependant rien qui soit ni hors norme, ni novateur, nous sommes ici sur un très bon imperial stout classique mais très bien fait et très appréciable. Noir profond, quasiment sans mousse ou effervescence, nous sommes dans l'essence du style. Le nez est profond sur le chocolat, le café et une pointe de fumé. L'attaque est franche, avec un très bon équilibre et notamment à la fois une amertume et un alcool qui viennent bien compenser des arômes torréfiés de chocolat et café puissants. La deuxième bouche se renforce encore en intensité avec de légères notes de poivre qui apparaissent. L'arrière bouche est un peu plus sur l'amertume avec notamment une pointe citronnée rafraîchissante. Le final d'une bonne longueur (sans être incroyable) voit une petite touche fumée apparaître. Si l'alcool tient bien l'ensemble, une petite dose en plus aurait pu lui donner un peu plus de tonus, mais heureusement que le sucre n'est pas trop dosé. Se savoure lentement.

330ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a tan cap. Chocolate, dark chocolate, plum, dried fig, raisin. Good body. Big chocolatey stout but without being overly sweet. A beer with a bit of a nostalgic hit for me that maybe gives a point or two extra.

Draft: Black with a tan head. Cocoa/Chocolate aroma. Taste is thick and sweet cocoa, vanilla, coffee. Malty and rich..... A little licorice bitterness. Barely noticeable alcohol..... Very good.

Bottle, thick deep brown head, opaque black color, aroma of chocolate liquor, toasted dark bread and metal notes, flavor of dark chocolate, charcoal and some alcohol showing but mellows as the beer warms up and becomes much smoother, just a little ouch of sweetness. Nice and enjoyable but not overly complex.

bottiglia 33 cl, bel cappello di schiuma color cappuccino media grana persistente, colore nero impenetrabile, al naso malto tostato caffè liquirizia ed alcool, in bocca è cremosa liquorosa sopratutto caffè poi liquirizia frutta secca, corpo strutturato, carbonazione piatta, attacco dolce con amaro rilevante lungo nel finale. Non è male, anzi…. ma non mia ha stupito, secondo me è spigolosa sbilanciata. Riproverò. Buon anno 31.12.18

22/11/2018 - draught 1/3 pint @Brewdog Brussels shared with some colleagues. Black colour with dark brown head. Nose is roasted matls, licorice, bit caramel, hint of smoke; Taste is creamy roasted malts, bit coffee, bit ashy, hint of smoke, bit vanilla, vinous touch. Not my favorite but solid.

F: medium, dark tanned, good retention. C: black, opaque. A: rich dark malty, chocolate, cocoa, chocolate sauce, bit roasted tones, coffee. T: dark malts, chocolate, cocoa, bit vinous, light oily mouthfeel, dark fruits, dry on the palate, full body, low carbonation, as good as I expected it means rich taste and good balanced for the style, fully enjoyed, from tap @ BrewDog Brussels.
