Old Peculier is a beautiful, yet very simple beer, brewed using a very generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley with two bitter hops combined with the majestic and noble ‘Fuggle’ hop to produce a beer of awesome full-bodied flavour with subtle cherry and rich fruit overtones.

Appearance is very dark brown, almost black, hints of ruby when put up to the light. Has a 1 finger beige head initially. Aromas of raisins, malts, sweet sugar, some roastiness, a little bit of chocolate. Taste is full bodied with roasted malt, sugar, dark fruits, a slight hint of banana. Some bitterness in the finish but overall very smooth, with a really nice mouthfeel. An excellent ale.

Flasche. - Tiefes Schwarzbraun. Antrunk sahnig, volles Röstmalz, nicht süß. Leichte Noten von Mokka, Rosinen und Bitterschokolade. Pikant säuerliche Note. Eher schlank, leicht rezent. - Schönes dunkles Ale, enorm süffig.

Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellar’s summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that it’s a weak beer, but it just seems there’s not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like it’s a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

Clear dark amber colour, off-white head that vanishes after a while, only light lacing. Sweet malty nose, caramel, bread, raisins, grass. Taste medium sweet and fruity, toasted mouthfeel, bit of wood, slightly bitter, herbal. Medium body, smooth sweetbitter finish, great ale.

500 ml bottle at home. Pours reddish brown with a thin, quickly dissipating off-white head. Aromas are toffee, dark sugar, something nutty. Taste has more caramel sugars, roasted notes, and dark fruit. Thin on the finish though, would be much better bottle-conditioned.

Bottle from Tesco’s. Poured a clear dark brown with an orange hue and a bubbly off-white head. The aroma is big roasted malts and liqourice. The flavour is strong bitter with a roasted malt, coffee, liqourice palate. A timeless classic.

Duft av lakris, frukt og kaffe. Nesten sort av farge. Tynt hengende skum. Nydelig smak av lakris og frukt.

Bottled, 0.50l. Clear deep amber brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dried fruits, grapes and subtle some wooden or earthy notes. Taste starts with sweet and rich malt, some liquorice, then followed sweet and sour fruity, mainly raisins, cherries and raspberries. This one has real mouth-coating feeling with mild herbal hoppy bitterness at finish. Full body, thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Oldie, but goldie...
