Old Peculier is a beautiful, yet very simple beer, brewed using a very generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley with two bitter hops combined with the majestic and noble ‘Fuggle’ hop to produce a beer of awesome full-bodied flavour with subtle cherry and rich fruit overtones.

500 ml bottle from some supermarket in Estonia. Pours sort of reddish brown, very small head, little carbonation. Aroma is mainly caramel sweet, has some berry wine notes and candy. Taste is also quite sweet although there is also fair amount of hop bitterness, coming out in the front and also in the aftertaste. I don’t really enjoy that caramel candy sweetness that lies over everything as a blanket. I guess this is not a bad beer but somehow I fail to understand it’s beauty. Dry and bitter aftertaste, that is good.

Appearance : Opaque brown color. Medium, beige head.
Taste : Medium sweet, very light sour, berries, caramel.
Palate : Medium body. Sticky texture. Astringent, light dry, light warm finish.
Overall : Nice old ale.

Pours a very dark, clear red with a frothy beige head. Smells of malt and fruit. The initial flavour is the bittersweet fruit with the malt and hops coming through more slowly though it's the malt which starts to take over, along with some caramel and just a little nuttiness. There's just a hint of wateriness in the finish which is a shame but this remains a classic and it's super drinkable.

500ml bottle from Tesco. Dark brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma brown sugar and malts. Flavour of banana and dark sugars. Nice low carbonation.

Hazy copper with a lasting white head. Aroma dominated by caramel and toffee, and possibly a little diacetyl, along with a touch of raisin. Sweet malty flavour with toffee and dried fruit.

Bottle from Morrisons. Clear ruby/brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of rust, brown sugar, banana bread and leather. Flavour of cherries, mushy banana, biscuit and chocolate. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Delicious, and tastes very ’British’. Very good for the price.
