Old Peculier is a beautiful, yet very simple beer, brewed using a very generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley with two bitter hops combined with the majestic and noble ‘Fuggle’ hop to produce a beer of awesome full-bodied flavour with subtle cherry and rich fruit overtones.

*Old rating. Best before 31.07.11. 5.6% Thick and dark malted beer. Hints of dark dried fruit, still not too hard to drink. Nice hopped to prevent too much stickiness, fruit, malt with a nice bitter Ale finish.

Bottle from the Coop. Appearance - dark brown with a nice creamy head. Nose - sweet malt and raisins. Taste - cakey and raisins again. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - solid though it’s easily better on cask.

Pours a clear brown color, topped with a fine tan head and a very decent lacing. Slightly fruity aroma, quite lots of coffee and roasted notes. Taste starts sweet, fruity, folllowed by coffee again and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad, although quite strong coffee notes.

0,5 l bottle from the English Shop in Bonn. Clear, dark, reddish brown with thick, creamy, diminishing, tan head. Nice aroma of dark fruits like prunes, dark cherries and raisins. Slightly vinous. Taste is slightly sweet and follows the aroma. Short medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, flat carbonation. Overall a really pleasant beer that lacks a bit of excitement. Still very good!

Bottle shared by Miro at Behind The Hills 2014 Autumn Edition. Chestnut brown color with medium off-white head. Caramel malt, chocolate in aroma. Sweet malty taste with coffee, some red fruits. OK.

A dark brown, slightly reddish beer with a medium and beige head. The nose has nuts, wood, some dark fruits. Taste is balanced, dark fruits, dark bread, dry wood, some roastiness, quite dry. Medium bodied, the great and smooth to drink that is the best part of this beer. Basic beer with nice balance.

Stunned to find this was not rated. Nose is malt, slight licorice slight cola. Taste is malt, sweet lactose notes, caramel malt. Nice mouth feel. It’s a good supermarket beer.

(Keg at Hilpeä Hauki, 20140920) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, earth and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, chocolate, grass, earth and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A nice malty English brew. Too fizzy.

Very classic old ale, ultra-traditional, with a sticky, beige, dense head and dark copper colour; sweet malts in the nose, brambleberry, pear, banana, chocolate; very rich malty taste, smooth with thinnish mouthfeel, subtle roasted bitterness, complex fruitiness and long herbal hop bitterness in the finish. I enjoyed this very much, this truly deserves its name and fame.
