Old Peculier is a beautiful, yet very simple beer, brewed using a very generous blend of finest pale, crystal and roasted barley with two bitter hops combined with the majestic and noble ‘Fuggle’ hop to produce a beer of awesome full-bodied flavour with subtle cherry and rich fruit overtones.

Bottle sample at a tasting at avrashi’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Deep reddish amber color. Aroma of malt, lots of plums, a bit of raisins notes and a bit of caramel. Sweetish malty flavor with a bit of dark bread, dark fruits and a drier finish with light earthy hoppiness. Medium-bodied.

500ml bottle. Dark ruby black colour, with off white foamy head leaving lots of lacing and deep vegemite type yeast aroma. Silky smooth dark malt, vegemite meaty yeasty notes, and light bitterness, also alittle residual dry sweetness. Good body and depth of tastes come through, interesting pint. Nicely drinkable

Pours as black as a stout, but with a red tinted foamy head. Taste is smooth and woody. Smells of coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel seems watery, but also feels right. For a heavier Britsh beer, this goes down smooth.

Oct 2006 from BA: Dark cream head, with an even darker, ruby body of liquid, the head stayed around for a while, then cleared off somewhere else. Malts and fruits above all in the aroma. The taste also has malts in abundance, but it is more complicated than that, aftertastes of fruits and hops burst through. This gives it a mouthfeel different to the first taste, strange, but strangley drinkable!

(bottle) Clear, dark brown colour with a beige and firm medium-sized foamy head. Cara-malty liquorice-spicy aroma with a whiff of dark chocolate, as well as berry-fruity and slightly woody hops. Moderately sweet and bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a mild carbonation. Solid cara-malty base with hints of chocolate, toffee and liquorice; bitter and slightly sweet rounded malty and hoppy finish with woody and subtle fruity notes. 11.III.12

Bottle from Tesco. It pours deep brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, candy floss, wood and vanilla. The taste is leather, wood, roasted malt, charcoal, spice, bitter chocolate, dark fruit and vinous aspect, with a long, very dry finish. medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty flavoursome. This is easily Theakston’s best offering.

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lastin head. Dark red-amber colour. Moderate malty and light hoppy aroma. MOderate bitter flavor. Week caramellic notes. not that wellbalanced. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.
