This is our Imperial IPA: an extreme IPA made for the love of hops. Its color is orange, right from the first sip you can perceive its tenacity: caramel, balsamic resins, bitter oranges. It’s refreshing and dangerously warming at the same time. It doesn’t matter how it goes, it will always be too late.

Tap at the Wildeman, Amsterdam. Poured a hazy dark amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is rich, malty and with a little yeast. The flavour is strong bitter with lots of liqourice, malt and alcohol on the smooth palate.

Keg at de Wildeman, Amsterdam, 5th September 13. This is not as good as I hoped, the hops are muted, possibly due to crystal malt addition, which has made this sweeter and more caramel. OK

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Hazy orange pour with a dissipating white head. Resinous fragrant hop aplenty in the nose alongside some sweet malts, citrus and a hint of booze. A similar story in the flavour which struck a decent balance despite some prominent bitterness. Ticked plenty of boxes. A very drinkable DIPA.

Bottled, BB 30-10-13, large sample. Hazy amber color, short off-white lacing. Aroma is very malty, caramel, biscuit. Hoppy of grapefruit, pine. Quite bitter taste, firm malty backbone. It has quite some residual sugars as well, which is masked by the bitterness. But the slightly sticky palate and full bodiedness of the beer tells. The grapefruit and bscuity malts blend together very nicely. A fresher example could have been hoppier in the nose, but the balance of the beer is simply wonderful already. Great example of a DIPA, lovely stuff.

Tap at Bir & Fud, Roma, 21/06/13. Very lightly hazed golden with a thin white head. Good lacing ensues. Nose is sticky tropical fruits, light hops, sugars, bitter orange notes. Taste comprises light pinw, orange pith, sugars, hops, light grass, malts. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in a slightly sticky, semi-cloying finish. Solid enough DIPA.
