This beer is something of a rare bird from Brouwerij de Prael. Even though Scotch Ale is a classic style of beer, we’ve given this one a distinctive twist. Brewed with smoked malt and also with our Weizen beer yeast, this beer is a real adventure.

(Bottle, 0 33 l - BB 5/15, at Leijuva Lahna, 20140906) The beer poured golden and almost clear. Its head was quite large, white and it lasted long. Aroma had fruitiness, herbalness and spices. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, spiciness, honey, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste had herbalness, malts and bitterness. This was a herbal bitter and on the label it reads Scotch Ale. The beer and the label don’t match.

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, orange-amber colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty, toasty and smoke-malty aroma with subtle grainy and fruity notes and a whiff of booze. Moderately sweet flavor with a tinge of sourness, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Mildly toasted and delicately smoked malty taste with notes of caramel, candy and a subtle fruity touch; sweet and mildly bitter finish with a hint of smoke and a warming alcoholic touch. 29.VIII.14

Tap tasted on 21/03/2014. A nice scotch. Medium carbonation and hazy golden colour with a small head. The taste is full of caramel and toffee. Bitter finish. Next one please!

Bottle. An unclear, dark golden beer topped by a small, light beige head. Caramel, roasted malts, peat and notes of beef stock in the aroma. Not much hoppyness in the flavor either, except some bitterness in the finish. Meaty hints, peat and roasted malts and some caramel sweetness. A little alcohol warmth too. Full bodied and with a nice carbonation level. Not a kind of beer I’d like to have a lot of, but it’s pretty pleasant and tasteful anyway. 131004

Thanks bierkoning! Hazy amber color, small off-white head. Sweetish berryish, caramelly aroma. Yeasty hints. Medium-bodied. Sweetish front, berries, caramel then some hoppyness in the finish. Quite decent although there is some disturbing yeast flavors.
