This beer is something of a rare bird from Brouwerij de Prael. Even though Scotch Ale is a classic style of beer, we’ve given this one a distinctive twist. Brewed with smoked malt and also with our Weizen beer yeast, this beer is a real adventure.

(Draught at De Prael Proeflokaal, Amsterdam, 26 July 2013) Pale amber colour with foamy off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with toast, apricots and spices. A bit hidden. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, toast, orange peel and a balanced spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

1/VI/13 - 33cl bottle @ post-FortaRock tasting - BB: VIII/2012 (?) (2013-516) Thanks to Tinus for sharing the bottle!

Little cloudy orange to beige beer, irregular creamy yellowish head, little stable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: fruity, bit sweet, peaches, apple sauce, spicy touch, quite some honey, sherry.MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet, honey, pretty oxidized, raisins, bitter hops, citrus. Aftertaste: honey, bit smoky, ashes, bitter hops, sweet malts, spices, gingerbread, bitter ending. Not too bad. Ageing has probably improved the beer.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a murky reddish amber with a frothy white head. The aroma was yeasty and the flavour was pretty much the same, where the Belgian style yeast truly dominated. This is about as "Scotch" as I am. Apart from the rather extreme and odd bitterness on the palate, it was quite drinkable, but I won’t be buying more.

Bottled, BB aug or sept 2013. Clear amber color with small debris, medium frothy off-white head. Aroma is quite spicy, caramel, hint of raisin, slightly burned malts. Taste has some bitterness, bit dry and spicy. Has a soft bite in the end. Weird combination.

Bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Gusher. Murky opaque reddish color, small to medium sized off-white head. Don’t get much aroma. Taste malts, lightly bitter, also a bit sweet and some fruitiness. Not a very appealing appearance but a decent taste. Decent body, medium carbonation.
